I've become interested in hunting for degree confluences and wondered if anyone would like to go to N 62 W 150 on Sunday? It's a little North of Willow. This particular confluence (where lat and long lines cross) appears to be one of the easiest ones to reach in this part of the state. The idea is to meet at the point listed above from 1 - 2PM as an impromptu Solstice event. We'd also carpool and cache a bit along the Park's Hwy on the way there and back. I've submitted this for an event and it is published as GC1JZ2N. Here's the info on the event. Solstice Sunrise 10:12 Sunset 15:41 Five hours and 29 minutes of daylight. Solstice Meet-up. 1 - 2 PM N62 00.000 W150 00.000Want to caravan to Ground Zero? Meet at Miners Last Stand N61 43.857 W 150 02.370 at 12:15 PM The Degree Confluence Project has a website where visits to degree confluences around the world can be documented. Their goal is: ¡§to visit each of the latitude and longitude integer degree intersections in the world, and to take pictures at each location.¡¨ After we find N 62 W 150, about 13 miles north of Willow along the Parks Highway, I will log our visit on the website. Please read about the one logged visit to this confluence at: confluence.org/confluence.php?id=1013I think we'll have a little different experience at this time of year. ƒºƒºƒºƒºƒºƒºƒºƒºƒºƒºƒºƒºƒºƒºƒº If you want to read about a recent adventure to a Bolivian volcano to snatch the FTF on the highest degree confluence in the Western hemisphere, read the Outside Magazine article entitled Because it¡¦s There, in the June 2008 issue. That article sparked my interest and the thought of an adventure to a nearby confluence with friends. You can also read about the visit at the Degree Confluence Project website: confluence.org/confluence.php?visitid=13862Hopefully this will spark your interest in degree confluences and the 200 Alaskan primary confluences as yet unvisited according to the website. Please RSVP so I have an approximate number of attendees and so people can arrange to carpool and cache along the way.

Wow! What a GREAT event! 11 people attended and stood at the Degree Confluence. To our surprise the Degree Confluence WAS NOT where the photos on the Web indicated it to be. The earlier party made it close but not to the exact spot. Check out OMGCrew's photos on the cache page for how close we got. Not all gps's zeroed out at the same spot, but they weren't that far apart.
Also, his picture of Li1gray made the rotating Small Banner photo spot on Geocaching.com today. MissJenn was kind enough to post a note on the cache page with instructions on how to view it.
