DNF!!!!!!! I had an epic trip to the Devils head climbing area searching for the holy grail...well, close. It is a 4.5/5 star cache called GCGG7W, "The Devil Made me do It." This cache hasn't been found ever...with a few valiant attempts. We climbed around the area for nearly 3 hours climbing difficult routes that I didn't think I was capable of right now...oh well. It is about the hunt right? It isn't as crazy as poor Williwa getting stonewalled on Williwa peak. I will try something cool on saturday. No geocaching this week as I don't want a lampshade post as #800. Now, who wants to go out and get the first winter find on acachraphobia? I will be back in town early January! The climbing was amazing! November in Colorado is definately different than Alaska... This is the view of "the tombstone" from the fire tower at Devil's Head. Intimidating view. I was beginning to wonder what I was in for! Finally at the GZ...now where could it be?

Shot down again...
Took a crack at a 4/5...called ignore list. Got to the top and was stopped by ice...i couldn't traverse the last ten feet to the ammo box. Oh well, 800 tomorrow.
I am hoping to do "Falcon Challenge"....maybe this time i won't get denied!
At this point i will hit 800 DNF's before i hit 800 finds!

Well January is more of and Ice climb down that way isn't it? what would I need to bring to be able to get up there? I have no, nada, nothing that resembles climbing gear but would love to find this cache.
Heck I even have a birthday in January maybe after I get back from Minnesota I can tackle the cache. I did do some rock climbing in Germany and some repelling at the Rock Gym on APU and at Camp Gorsuch (Boy Scout Camp). Sure sound like fun! Love your pictures and caches but most al of them I would never attempt alone!

January it is...Yes it will be cold, but it is Alaska. Hopefully the snow doesn't bury it... ;D
Anybody else up for it? I think i will make it an event cache...but they deny me if i put the coordinates at the cache. More info to come...

I know a certain reporter who is writing a story on geocaching for a Statewide magazine who might be interested in going. She was very excited about it when she heard about it. She wanted to go get the scuba diving cache in Big Lake too, but the lake was frozen.
I would be up for it, Sunday 1/25/09?
It is one of the best caches I have ever done. We did it 12/4/07 and it was a great day, count me in.

That sounds like fun, I don't have any crampons with toe spikes and my ice axe is MIA at the moment. I dig the photos of your trek to "My Own Private Idaho". We still need to get "Over The Top" as well.
I missed being able to get a smiley for Angel's Landing (GCG2ZP ) earlier this month due to some unseasonal snow in Zion National Park. I had all the right gear but trails kept being closed and the Ranger's strongly persuaded me NOT to hike/climb it. So now I have more reasons to go back to Zion (it is heaven on earth if you haven't been. The Narrows will teach you to respect your surroundings while showing you some of the most awe inspiring splendor on earth.

Forget the Superbowl, let's go caching!
I'm in, even if just along for the ride. I'll see if I can get hold of our reporter friend and see if she is interested in going.

Yep, that is the same "Over The Top" out by Beluga Point, I have been 78' from it, but didn't have the proper gear and from the terrain wouldn't recommend it without climbing ropes and helmets.

OK, That was hidden by "lone cub" with the Outdoor Club. I climbed with him at various times on rock and ice. I'm not sure what condition the cache might be in by now.

The ice might be a little thin to climb this weekend. Let's check on it in a few days and see. The highway melted down pretty well in the last pineapple express...The ice on the trail to lower russian lake was, however, very icy. There is a hint in there somewhere:) Adventurers prepare!

RATS! My boss, who spent the ENTIRE football season proclaiming how much better College Football is than the overpaid pro teams has suddenly decided that HIS Steelers need his support more than I need my usual Sunday day off. Sorry, need to beg off.

Anyone interested in going still? We are playing this by ear at the moment as weather permitting this one is possible as is Over the Top and an ice climb to My Own Private Idaho. The sun rises at 9:20am on Sunday, so meeting around then would be a good idea, at cacheraphobia. Keep an eye on the form here and please chime in if you want to go. If the volcano erupts then I will not be available as I will be at work and climbing in fresh ash would not be advisable. Let's hope the weather is good. The ice at "Idaho" is not good from MTboys report. Low tide is at 6:15am on Sunday and is a minus tide, it will be rising when the sun comes up but Gilligan's might be within reach at sunrise depending on the tide.
Sorry to hear tomanoble won't be able to make it. Hope to see you all there.

I know that tomanoble and OMGCrew are not able to go tomorrow for this. Is anyone else still planning on heading out in the morning? Watch this forum, as I do not want to drive out for nothing tomorrow. I will check this at 8:30am. If no one has replied we will postpone this until a different week, perhaps next Sunday. If you are wanting to go reply here so we have an idea of how many will be going. Thanks, this is a fun one and should be full of memories.

I need to check the calendar. I am out this weekend as I am working straight through it. So plan on good weather. I have the Susitna 50 the 14th, but the 15th might be an option. I might be a little sore and whiney.
