!!!2008 Alaska State Fair Caches!!!
First of all, there is a new Palmer cache being activated on Monday or Tuesday called "Fairly Difficult.' This cache, registered with Geocaching.com, will contain all the standard cache stuff, FTF coin , etc, that all my other caches have. In addition, it will have this years clue sheet for the Alaska State Fair caches, and it is where you can log in 'note' form your fair adventures, and please keep posting photos. It's a real payoff for me and my family who have worked pretty quickly to pull this off. We got really far behind this year, and apologize for the delay, but we did get everything done just in time
2008 Alaska State Fair caches as follows. A SPOILER post will be posted before the State Fair for those who don't want to struggle too much with my silliness.
There are 10 caches placed on the grounds of the Alaska State Fair. They are all outside, easily reached, not buried, or placed in any landscaping or garden area. About half are small magnetic caches made from altoid-tins that are hidden. The other half are camoflaged medium-sized caches hidden in plain sight. I won't give them away, but once you find one, you'll know what to look for.
The small caches will have a logbook and can hold tiny items like pins or small coins. The larger ones will hold trade items. Please do not bring travel bugs to the caches on the State Fair grounds. The geocaching community did very well last year, and I lost only one cache, but I don't want to loose anyone's TB, and caching with thousands of people around is a risky venture.
All cache coordinates will be in the Hoskins Exhibits Hall disguised or displayed in art exhibits of some sort. The theme this year is the Olympics! There are ten olympic-themed art pieces, and ten sets of coordinates. Not everything is what it may seem, and I was especially tricky with some of the pieces this year. Hopefully, they aren't all bunched up this year like some were last year. We'll see.
For those who need even more caching fun, I got my daughter Ki-La-La to pose at two locations in the fairgrounds. She's even more of a teenager these days, so wasn't too keen on having her image used in a geo-hunt, but I was able to bribe these out of her. Find the photos in the photography exhibits, and then try to find the coordinates. Send the coordinates to Nate Grumby and you'll earn 'bonus points.' Even more bonus points for people who can mimic the photos and post them on Fairly Difficult. I love some of the shots from last year.
For 'super-duper bonus points' you can try and find me, who will be acting as a mobile cache. Strange as it may seem, very few geocachers have actually met me, so here's your chance. Every day I deliver turkey legs to Gobbler's Grill, usually late in the afternoon, before 5 or 6 PM. In my pocket I will be carrying the STS-122 geocoin to be 'discovered' and a FTF unactivated geocoin of some sort for anyone who finds me on any given day. If you ask for Nate Grumby, the people at the booth won't have a clue, but you might spot Ki-La-La in her signature skull-hoodie and ask for her dad, or if you spot a fellow driving or unloading legs from a truck from the alley next to the booth, well, that's me.
Good luck all, and have fun.

OK, I already have two corrections... Due to a logistical mistake, I listed the Exhibit Hall for the art exhibits as the Hoskins Hall. All of the clues are in fact in the Irwin Exhibit Hall. Also, I had to substitute another magnetic small cache for a larger trading cache due to plastic siding on a building instead of metal siding. Oops. I went through the exhibit today, and made sure all the coordinates are facing the observers. A couple of them were up backwards or twisted. And in case you're trying for the reverse caching, as in trying to locate where Ki-La-La was in her photos, here is a picture of her from last year. Good luck!

Hello! Geocachers are getting me input on the State fAir caches...there may be a set of duplicate coordinates. I will be checking the art pieces to make sure that the coordinates aren't duplicated. Any fixes will be posted here and in the Fairly Difficult cache.
And I was 'found' today! I'll have a new FTF coin in my pocket for Monday.
Thanks for the input.

Hello again.
Having gone through the art exhibits, there is indeed a duplicate coordinate. I will modify Mushu the Chinese Dragon so the coordinates will be correct. SHould be a quick fix made this afternoon. I will also visually check the cache containers to make sure everything is still in place for the big weekend.
Thanks for playing!
