I recently noticed that the stretch of Rabbit Creek Road between the north end of Old Rabbit Creek down to Goldenview is up for adoption in the Department of Transportation's "Adopt a Highway" program. If enough interest is posted here, I'm willing to take the lead on setting up GeocacheAlaska! as the adopting organization. An orientation with DOT prior to our first CITO effort would need to be arranged, but after that, DOT provides bags, safety vests and signage for our efforts. More details of the program may be found in pdf format here.

I think that would be a great idea. I have seen several other geocaching organizations throughout the Lower 48 which have adopted roadways and they tend to be some very clean areas and also let more people know about geocaching in general and the community group. How many CITO events a year would roadway adoption entail? I'm in.

A three-year commitment is required with a minimum of one clean-up event per year.

I saw that same sign and I'm really glad you brought it to everyone's attention! You also have a yes vote from me.

I'll be in when I return next May, something to add to the retirement list of items to do.

I am willing to get out there and help. We are always picking up as we walk out dogs along Elmore and this will help give Geocaching a good name. Hope you get enough support for this.

I wonder where the signs come from? Uh-oh...we might have a conflict of interest in the making We might have to limit the signage to "GAK!" to minimize the size of the conflict. On the serious side, with a few more supportive posts from other cachers in this thread, I'll get the ball rolling before another group snaps up that section. Admittedly, I'm a bit biased about that section since it runs right by our house, but the scenery and views of the Rabbit Creek Valley and Turnagain Arm along that section are tough to beat. The Stork Park ramada right off Rabbit Creek Road on Clark's Road would make a great place for a post CITO barbeque.

I'm all for it. Just as long as we can make the sign into a cache. Just kidding... Although I think we know sombody that knows how to work with signs. Anyway, seriously I was all for doing this a while back when someone tryed to get the area along the 'C' street extention. I say lets go for it. Gives us another way to show that Geocachers care.

Yup! I called Tank who is in charge of the program and he said they were reorganizing and he'd call me back. He forgot and so did I. I like the C street extension for visability.

Hmmm...only eight or nine positive responses in this thread...I was hoping for more on the order of 20 or 30 before moving forward with this. I'll make another run at achieving critical mass at Tuesday night's event at Guido's Pizza, though I suppose if I push the adoption through, it'll be a simple matter of hold a CITO Event and they will come.

All for it. The sign, needs the required verbiage.. then, a Travel Bug Decal (similar to the one on the back of my truck), firmly affixed to the back of the sign.
Just discover the travel bug...
In any case, Broccili family is in.
There's my two yen

I'm willing to help. Especially if there's food after...
We'd only have to clean up once a year? Because the snow covers everything most of the time?

Wow, I thought I replied to this weeks ago when I saw it come up.
Count me in to help as needed.
I may have replied using my inner voice or some such nonsense, happens all the time.

I am willing to commit to doing a CITO for this area, count me in. Will make GAK a little more known and others will then take the time to learn about Geocaching.
