Are you up for a challenge? GC1BC00 www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=b47d1951-8c7b-4702-bcbe-537bb0ee6266This spring on May 3 there will be the first of several outdoor adventure events. This one is in Seward, at Caines Head. If you are not familiar, Caines Head is a 600' bluff South of Seward that plummets into the waters of Resurrection Bay. It is accessible by foot only at low tide and via kayak, water taxi or other boat at high tide. It is a 6.5 mile one way hike to Caines Head from Lowell Point. Due to the floods in 2006 the area is still ravaged and the bridge across Tonsina Creek is still washed out. This means to get to Caines Head you must cross the creek. Because of this, this trip is not recommended for children and those not in decent shape. There will be other events this summer that are not as energetic as this and will still include an incredible location in this beautiful State we call home. We will be leaving Lowell Point at 4:00am in order to make the tide and we will be on foot for at least 13 hours and we be covering around 16 miles of ground will we are out. This should be a very fun trip, but is not for the casual wanderer. There is not much elevation gain, but there is a lot of ground to be covered and the need for emergency supplies and warm clothes is a must. It is still early spring and that means the weather is still cold, wet and windy in Seward and as anytime can turn very quickly. If you are coming from outside of Seward you will need to get to Seward on Friday night and plan to join us at Lowell Point at 4:00am sharp to make the trip out. I recommend chest or hip waders for the creek crossing and plan to dress for the weather in Seward, it is usually cold in the spring and the sea air can chill you through to the bone. Rain gear is a must as it will most likely rain. Please do not take this trip lightly. It will be a good time but it requires some preparation. We will be having breakfast in Caines head around 8:30 and then exploring the area. Bring water and personal items and food for a long day in the wilderness. If you plan on attending please put a number of people on the will attend listing so I know how much food I am packing in for breakfast. This should be a fun time. So far there are 6 people planning on making the trip.

A few people have expressed interest in going to this event. It will be fun, although most likely tiring and a very long day. Seward got rain while Anchorage got all the snow. It will be an adventure and the terrain may be adjusted to 4.5 due to the late spring weather we have been experiencing. If you are planning to go please post a will attend note on the cache page with the number in your party. This will give me an idea of how much food to get together and pack out on the trail for breakfast. Thanks and I hope to see you bright and early on Saturday morning.

Thanks to everyone who attended. Those who didn't missed out on an incredible trip. Look for more adventure caching events this summer, there will be plenty of chances to attend some fun outdoor get togethers and go adventure with your caching friends and meet more while enjoying the greatness of this awesome State we live in. ...and not all of them will be 4+ in terrain I promise.
Cache On, and welcome to springtime!
