Hello Alaskan Geocachers: I am coming to Anchorage around June 9 - 13 to go halibut fishing with my sister, her daughter and my mom. This is a trip of a lifetime for me, so I am VERY excited!
The plan is to rent a car to go to Seward and find a charter boat there to do the fishing. My mom also wants to go salmon fishing (can this be done from the shore in Anchorage?).
So, can anyone from Seward or Anchorage recommend some charter companies? How about a reasonable hotel in each area?
I am also an AVID geocacher (okay, addict!), so if you can recommend an AWESOME geocache that would be fantastic! Or, if you are willing to be a tour guide for me for a couple hours I would be interested in that too!
Thanks! I am looking forward to visiting your state!

Now would be a good time to book a charter to be sure you have space on the dates you want to go. Salmon fishing can be done from Ship Creek. it is crowded and muddy but it can be done pretty easy. Fish will get here when they get here and your success will depend on hitting the right times. Fish tend to come in with the tide, so when the tide starts to come in after the low is when they make their move. You should book a charter on the Kenai if you want to go Salmon fishing. You'll have a good chance to see bears about 40% I would guess and a moose is just about a sure thing. Check out some B&Bs but that is the best time to come here and the hotels are expensive. You can try White Bear Charters. they can set you up with both Salmon and halibut. It all depends on timing on how you will do fishing. The geocaching will be 100% sure thing!
Hope that helps -

Hi olerun: I googled White Bear charters but came up with nothing specific. Do you happen to have an email or web address for them.
Thanks for the info!

The army rec center offers charter boat fishing. Both offer cabins and rooms for rent. The army center has more up to date accomodations. The army site is www.sewardresort.com/ and is open all year.

Hey all - my sister booked a trip on Puffin Charters. I am so looking forward to visiting Alaska. Now, can you guys recommend any "must-do" traditional caches in the Seward area? Thanks! bunnygirl83703@yahoo.com
