We're going to WA next month and then down to San Diego. We'll be in the Bellingham area too. Were there any caches there that you really liked or would recommend visiting?

We are heading to Phoenix and have a 6 hour layover at Seatac...will not have a car. Any experience near the airport anyone can recommend? Will be caching in Prescott and maybe in Phoenix while there for an Irish dance competition. Since I'm new to this sport....do I need to find a travel bug and then take it with and deposit it down there? Do they have special destinations? (I will next check the web also for the answer....there's so much new to learn!)

tomanoble and I just got back from Outside and used a 9-hour layover to rent a car (less than $20 from FOX through an online site and we drove down Olympia way and found 6 caches there and back. Fun little side trip.
Without a car? This one looks pretty close to SEATAC - GC1847Y - it's name is appropriate, something about a short layover. Have fun! You can also click the nearby caches on that cache's web page and find others close by.

Quick check of geocachinmig.com shows 5 caches within 1 mile of SeaTac and 15 active caches within 1.5 miles. Of course, that is all directions which means some are on the other sides of the airport. Go to the GC1847Y listing on geocaching.com and click on the map showing the street location. This brings up a more detailed and adjustable map showing nearby geocaches. If you expand the area covered by the map you see just how dense the cache coverage is nearby. You might also check to see if there is local bus service available to the airport and nearby areas. This would be an alternative to renting a car or taking a taxi. The first time blazingpathways cached near SeaTAc she hired a taxi to take her to a travel bug hotel to drop a travel bug that wanted to travel far away and the taxi driver waited for her to find and log the cache before returning her to the airport.
By the way, there are over 400 caches within a half mile of I 5 between Seattle and Portland so the the number of caches you can find with a car is entirely up to how fast you cache and how often you get lost. We managed 6 caches but had a 70 mile drive to get to the specific cache we needed to log.

Wow..thanks. So much to learn. A travel bug hotel? ? I will head off to gc.com to see if this is my next new term to learn. You have all been incredibly helpful to this newcomer. Thanks.

Here is a map of some caches. You should try some of the puzzle caches as they could be easy to get as well. I would have to do the elves caches and there is a multi to the south that looks to be in a park called angle - something, I can't remember. Have Fun!

Wow..thanks. So much to learn. A travel bug hotel? ? I will head off to gc.com to see if this is my next new term to learn. You have all been incredibly helpful to this newcomer. Thanks. Travel Bug Hotels: Usually large containers placed in/near locations that have a lot of traveling cachers pass by. If someone wants to increase the likelihood of a bug moving, one can drop a bug into one of these caches and pick up and move bugs that are there. Just like real hotels, sometimes the TB hotels are full of residents and sometimes they are empty. Travel Bug Hotels should not be confused with Travel Bug Prisons. Travel Bug prisons have stipulations on them that a cacher can only trade travel bugs one for one or that a minimum inventory of travel bugs be maintained in the cache. Cachers who place these kinds of caches forget that the travel bugs still belong to their owners and are meant to travel, not stay cooped up in a cache. For the latest gc.com thread on the topic, go here.

Thanks LBK...that was helpful in two ways:
Learned about TB hotels....which suddenly reminds me of the new bedbug problem in hotels...yikes.
Also now know there is a forum at gc.com. I'm able to go to bed smarter than I woke...so much to learn. I found your jewel lake cache today...couldn't find the TB in it though. :-(

Howdy and welcome, akglassfuser!
I've done some caching in the Prescott area. Let me review my finds and get you a list. There's an awesome bike trail there on the north side of town that's got some nifty caches & it's an easy getaway. (My wife & I own a little home in Prescott Valley & I spent a lot of time there in the last two years getting it fixed up and put on the rental market - way too much time working vs the time I got to geocache...). How much time do you have in the Prescott area? There's a couple of really cool earthcaches up towards Sedona just north of Prescott, and some scenic caches along those roadways as well.
What timeframe are you traveling down there in AZ?

Thanks NW...I've logged in the coords for the Thumb Butte area where my folks live. I'm only there for 2 days and then down to Chandler for an Irish dance competition for 2 days (have also logged in the cords for near the hotel as well. And I've got several near SeaTac where I have a layover. We leave Thur. am and return late Mon. MLK Day. Tried to find a TB at "Bend and Snap" today....but no luck. Frost recommended the TB Hotel near the airport to grab.
