Okay, now that I am looking for a new GPS and I have time because I still have the etrex. Do you think they will have a GPS/PDA combo that is handheld and not an auto style GPS? It would be cool to upload the cache pages right to the GPS and a lot of them plus have the maps too.

Or if Malcore and Scobey get a Rhino, I will get one then I can see where they are at and if they are FTF. But, They would have to send me their coords. ....

Oh, Ole, I'm so sorry . As long as you're in the market, why not try a Magellan? Still going strong after more than two years and 800 caches .

I considered a PDA/GPS operation and the one Wigi uses is probably the best solution of them all but I don't think this is a good solution in the rain and cold. A PDA is not made to get rained on nor dropped in the snow. They also drain the battery rather quickly and I'll bet even quicker in the cold. I have a Garmin 76CS I might consider selling if you are in the market for one that size. Please don't listen to LBK

I'd love to have a Treo-type phone with all those bells and whistles - but they want an arm and a leg for an item that's basically a consumable product. I'm anxious to avoid damaging my trusty Garmin, but I've faceplanted it on rocks (thus saving my own hide), dumped it in a cooler full of thrashing just-dipnetted salmon (yech) and re-gasketed the outer trim on thus far in just 18 months of use... I'm sure I'm going to hammer this unit or lose it, so I don't want to invest too much. I bought a Palm Zire 72 off ebay that works great as a PDA for 95 bucks delivered (and has a low res camera to boot). It's done a stellar job at carrying all the cache & benchmark data on my last two trips outside... and I use the Garmin maps on my GPS.

I just got the new Pocket PC phone from ACS and yes NorthWes it is an arm and a leg for a consumable, but it SURE IS FUN. Now I won't spend an hour looking for a cache that is gone due to having old logs on my PDA ;D, plus you can log them as you find them provided you have a cell signal.
One of the guys I work with picked up a (small) bluetooth gps device that works pretty decent with his PDA/Phone but I have to agree again, they are much to fragile for snow and rain to be your primary device. Perhaps with an otter box you could make it work.
