If Sourdough members want to quit GCA for what ever reason, do they return their name tags to GCA? This was asked by two Fairbanks members...
Thanks

No. When a Sourdough stops paying membership dues, they revert to Cheechako status. We make attempts to get them to renew, as most lapses are simply forgetting to renew or an expiration on their paypal account. If a member tells us that they are not going to renew or they fail to renew after a reasonable period of time and after reasonable effort on GCAK's part, we will administratively move the tracking number of their nametag from their possession (or its current location) to the Collection under the GCAK! profile. While in our Collection, it can be discovered, but it cannot be picked up, grabbed, or logged into any caches.
As for the physical nametag itself, we are not concerned about it as we cannot do anything with a "used" trackable if it has so much as a single discover log on it.
If the member has a change of heart and renews their membership at some future point, we simply move the nametag out of our collection and the member will be able to "grab" it from us and continue their travels.
Also, the new Sourdough Longevity items that are coming out will be owned by the Sourdough member instead of GCAK!, so the member will get to keep those items and use them as they would any other owned trackable. Only the original 1st year nametag is a GCAK-owned trackable.
This question has come up a couple times recently, so I'll put something in the coming newsletter explaining the nametag program in its entirety.

Update to this question...
The Sourdough nametags will no longer be held electronically by GCAK!
All existing nametags are being adopted out to their assigned member. All future tag issues will be first activated by GCAK to build the default tag listing, and then it will be adopted out to the new member.
Even if a former Sourdough has dropped their membership down to Cheechako status, the previously issued nametag will be adopted out to them.
