Hey, everyone. So, May 8-11 is the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival. Not only will that event be going on, but there are also some interesting geocaching related things to do in town as well.
I'm hoping to have a Geocachers and Birding Coffee event on one of the days, and there are many caches placed where there is good bird viewing during the festival.
Also, there is a Chamber of Commerce sponsored scavenger hunt going on in town. I figure some geocachers would be a sharp group to come down and win the contest!
I'll be getting more caches out around Homer, and there will be some opportunities to link birding and geocaching together throughout the weekend. I'd love to show folks around some if they come down!

I've really enjoyed the birding I've done the past year. I only just started but I'm finding it goes along with geocaching perfectly. I love the app I've got. I stop often when out on a caching hike and try to identify some little feathered friend. One time I even called a little fella to with in only a few feet when I played it's song. That made for a positive ID and it was totally cool. I just may have to see if I can make it, I've recently wanted to go to a birding event. isn't there another one down in Homer the later part of the year?

There isn't another, but the Kenai birding festival is the following weekend, May 15-18.
If you can make it, it's a lot of fun. Plenty of activities, and most of it is free. Between the caching and birding, it should be a fun weekend.

Was just looking at the dates for this the other day, and as long as I can get a good time to go down, planning on getting some birding in. Been looking for a good place to see some birds since we moved up here, been a little while since I've gone birdwatching.

Was just looking at the dates for this the other day, and as long as I can get a good time to go down, planning on getting some birding in. Been looking for a good place to see some birds since we moved up here, been a little while since I've gone birdwatching. Homer's is the state's largest wildlife festival. It should be a lot of fun! Register online, or in person at the Chamber when you get to town. Or, if you just want to bird and tag along, you don't have to register. But if you do, you get access to some events that you otherwise would not.
