Looking for a little advice on how to build a personal coin cache. We (Tundra Quad) do not have (own) any trackables. Was looking into that side of the game, err addiction. Had been thinking after finding and moving along a coin I could purchase a similiar coin for personal collection. So if I find a New York coin I could then entitle myself to buy a New York coin to keep. I have seen a cache created by Cruiser Dude where his coins are logged. The cache doesn't exist, it's just a means of getting the coins to appear in the owned trackable column. Any insight on the best way to do this would be appreciated. And stay tuned for a TQ coin currently under construction.

Looking for a little advice on how to build a personal coin cache. I've seen in the forums one way to do this and be assured your coins don't get stolen. The cacher drilled a hole through all the coins and then ran aircraft cable through the holes and secured the ends. The cable was then locked to an unmoveable object. I'll dig around the threads a bit later this evening to see if I can find the photo. Another cacher has his coins in a display case behind a set of locked cabinet doors on his front porch. Cachers have to solve a puzzle or do a stage of a multicache to get the combination for the lock. The only way to get a coin onto one's "owned" trackable list is to be the one who activated the coin. All other logs go on the other side of one's profile. Edit: I took a look at CruiserDude's profile. What he's done is created a cache page, but left the "Yes this listing is active" box unchecked. Doing this keeps the unpublished cache available to him in his profile, but the Approvers don't see it and publish it for the world to see. Then he dropped all his owned coins into the cache to get them out of his "Inventory" that shows up on his "My Account Details" page. That way, he can tell at a glance which travel bugs and geocoins owned by other people that he is holding without having to also look at the 200+ coins he owns. Other people drop their coins into one of their archived caches to eliminate the "clutter" or create a sock puppet account and use the sock puppet to grab the coins from their inventory and hold them until they are ready to drop the coins into an Event Cache or somewhere else. Anchorage cacher Northwes did this by creating an account for his dog, AeroAK, and having Aero grab all 100+ of his owned coins. AeroAK even writes his own cache logs on occasion! By the way, don't wait to buy a coin until you find one in a cache. In most cases, the coins you find in caches are long sold out, so to get one you would have to pay a premium on EBay or find a cacher who has extras you can trade for. You can get coins by watching the geocaching.com Geocoin Discussion forums for new releases. You can get a great start on a collection by buying some of the newly released 2007 Alaska microcoins.Let me know if I didn't answer the right question .

The edit covered the bases. And I did get some skeeter micros and found them in the mail when we got back from a mushing excursion. Thanks for mailing them so quickly. Not sure how I'll proceed but at least now I know a couple different ways. I may just get the coins and not activate them. Enjoy the CA escape.
