I would like to throw my hat into the ring as an organizer for a CITO event for CITO day (or the week or so after weather permitting...but Jake the Bear has awoke from hibernation already so perhaps spring has truly sprung). I would like to cleanup Kincaid Park again this year, but I think the Jodphur side is in dire need of attention as I have come across some serious trash over there (and not in in the motocross park, but in the woods around the trails). Please send me contacts for who I need to get in touch with to make this a reality. I hope to see you all at the CITO 2008 spring cleanup. Don't forget Daylights Savings Time is early this year and we set our clocks forward an hour at 2:00am this Sunday morning 3/9/2008.

About that spring has truly sprung thing...I thought the snow this past Saturday was winter's last gasp. At the rate we're going, this CITO event is going to have to be BYOXCS (Bring Your Own XC Skis), or a snowshoe event.

If there is still lots of snow on the ground when the CITO events come near, they may have to be rescheduled as it is hard to CITO if you can't see the ground. Keep thinking Spring!

Thank goodness they didn't get as much snow on the West side of town as we did on the Hillside or we definately wouldn't be CITOing on the 19-20th. I'm really trying hard to THINK SPRING.

Yeah, I don't think the snow was quite as bad as they were predicting, which is good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Any news on either Kincaid CITO Events currently scheduled for this weekend? Has there been enough snow melt to expose the ground? I imagine Kincaid South might melt off first. Please keep us posted.

We are checking the parks tonight and hopefully the melt off will be enough (this is a bit of gambling here) to make the events both worthwhile and rewarding. There was 2" of snow in Jodhpur on Monday. I will get a report later on how the rest of the park is tonight. It is supposed to be in the mid to upper 40s the rest of the week and 50 on Monday (although Monday will be to late). Parks and rec have been alerted to a possible last minute reschedule, but next weekend is the only semi free weekend I have until mid June so I am hoping for enough melt-off.

Park report: There is still 2" of snow in Jodhpur Park and less in Kincaid. The trails are clear and in Kincaid the Southern exposed areas are clear. The areas in the trees and Northern facing are covered in snow. It may be better to postpone until next week. I can reschedule for next Sunday if people can make it then. I would hate to put on a clean up event and not be able to clean up.
Thoughts?

The 26th and/or 27th would work for me.
I was hoping the Kincaid snowcover report would be that the coastal areas have already melted, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised since the Hillside Nordic trails were groomed again today. Having the ground more or less snow free would let us really clean up the area.

Looking at the weather report for next week: We're supposed to get temperatures into the low/mid 50's most of the week with partly cloudy/mostly sunny predicted for most of the week. It might be wise to move the event to next weekend.
I unfortunately wouldn't be able to make a Saturday event, but Sundays are good for me.

I had an e-mail exchange with tex_ak earlier this morning. Due to schedule conflicts next weekend, he's leaning toward keeping the Saturday event on this Saturday (4/19). It's the Sunday (4/20) event which might move to Sunday, April 27.
Please watch this forum and the cache page for any other information.

Hmmm - I'd bet on Kincaid Chalet being CITO-possible on the original scheduled date, based on a visit there last night at 9pm.
My pro-April 19 remarks: there's a lot of visible trash emergent right now from snow - literally just drying out. By next weekend it's going to have blown a bunch of the paper litter deeper into the park from the chalet area as that litter dries out more... and the observed (& forecast) weather for Friday shows the area will receive a good 12 hours of sunshine with a drying breeze. The chalet environs got a lot of hard use during the Jr Olympics and the snowblasts that occured in late March - the parking lot alone has hundreds of pieces of litter in it that would be easy to pick up. Last year's event removed lots of large objects from the wooded areas around the chalet so those will be less likely to need direct action right now.
I'd suggest we keep the 19th event as scheduled to scoop up the immediate Chalet area & (less importantly but still significantly) keep an Alaskan CITO event on schedule with the worldwide CITO push. Go ahead on set the southside CITO back to Sunday the 27th to accomodate the later thaw down that way.
For later in the summer a second CITO in Kincaid would be a good idea anyhow - on those (filthy) disc-golf courses... (I've never seen so much litter in Kincaid before those went in - bottles across all the courses...)
My opinion only - FROSTG1ANT is the decision-maker on this one & I'll back his action 100%. (If, however, you move the 19th CITO to Sunday the 27th, please start it after noon...)

I just received a confirming e-mail from FrostG1anT. While there is snow at both Kincaid locations, there is enough trash to make a clean up effort worthwhile. Both CITO Events will occur at their original scheduled date and time.

You should have all the beer bottles marked by waypoint, just a fast spot reading, build a map and their location related to the course... Mark all bottles from around the park, it could be fun in a geocaching way.
I wish I could be there!

I posted our event results in the geocaching.com CITO thread. I didn't find any photos from Saturday's event, but if they do get posted, I'll add them. Good work by everyone who attended, especially those who pulled double duty on both days!!!

Pictures posted today, I was too tired to post last night. Thank you to everyone who came out and put in some work. The Park is better for it and we will all enjoy the benefits.

The Kincaid CITOs made the big time again with the group photo making the geocaching.com banner today. Congratulations to FrostG1anT for having not one, but two of his photos make it in the same week!

Having spent a bit of time in Kincaid Park this last week it came to my attention how much garbage there is over near Little Campbell Lake. When we set up for the spring CITO events we made arrangements for future CITO of this area as well as several other parks in the Municipality. Is anyone interested in taking part in a two hour CITO event after work one of these weekday evenings? Is anyone interested in being the lead on a CITO event? This will give you a CITO icon for your statistics. Let me know here in these forums or offline if you are interested. The ground work has already been laid and the local paintball players have been haking a mess of the area surrounding Little Campbell Lake. Go CITO!
