While caching in Ozark, Alabama, with rme chef we came across a duck neither of us had seen before. It is called a Muscovy Duck (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscovy_Duck) and is native to Mexico and Central and South America. Small populations exist in southern North America. It is commonly called a Turkey Duck in Alabama. As a side note, the park we saw this duck at has a stocked lake where you have to weigh all the fish you kept before leaving the park so they know how much fish they can restock without overstocking the lake. And you thought Alaska was tough on fishing regulations! Attachments:

In culinary circles they are known as Barbary Ducks after they are cooked.

We had one of these growing up. UGLY! They are cool though. i don't know where it came from...it just showed up with our flock one day. Somebody probably thought they got the ugly duckling and dropped it off.
