Hello! It was nice meeting some of you in Anchorage (though very briefly) at the Lost and Found event!
Some of you may be aware of the work I've been doing this summer at Denali to standardize approval requests and to advocate EarthCaching activities. An approval system has been organized and is nearly ready to test - but it will probably not be finished by the end of the summer until after things wind down.
Earlier in the summer, I thought about holding an EarthCaching event here at Denali. My idea was to have it be a multi-day, multi-level event that could cater to all levels and ages held at the Murie Science and Learning Center, including:
1. Regular EarthCachers (a talk on NPS policy, updates to the approval system and what to expect, etc.?)
2. Public interested in learning more about what EarthCaching is, how to do it, and how it's done in Denali.
3. Park employees (to explain what EarthCaching is, that it is legal and regulated in Denali as opposed to geocaching, how to better help visitors interested in EarthCaching).
4. School groups (introduction to navigation, GPS, earth science, Leave No Trace stewardship)
So, how about it? International EarthCaching Day (part of Earth Science Week) is on 10 October, a Sunday. Would you be interested in attending this, maybe if it were held 8-10 to incorporate at Sunday at least? Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks for reading!

Well... if no one replies positively or negatively, it's definitely not going to happen.

Hi Socorro:
Hang in there...both the GeocacheAlaska! Events and Education Committee Chairs have been out of state/on vacation for the past couple of weeks.
I personally like the idea, but are Denali facilities still open in October? I believe Riley Creek campground stays open, but the water is shut off at some point. Participation would most likely be greater with a MatSu or Anchorage based event just due to the distance, but I see some of your targeted audience are National Park employees.

Sounds like a grreat event but would like to be able to get in the 14 miles to get to the new earthcaches you have been working on in the park. I really like them. I really learn a lot from them. Look forward to hearing more about the event.
