Have you ever wanted to learn how to harness up and repel or climb? Now is your opportunity to learn firsthand how to properly gear up and safely repel and if time allows climb via top rope. On July 19 there will be a gathering for geocachers to get some basic instructions into repelling and climbing gear and safety. We will be doing some basic repelling with a belay assist. If you have a harness, bring that and your helmet, as well as your gloves and your wind/rain gear in case it is needed. This should be a fun afternoon of learning, repelling, rock climbing, and friendship. The time has not been set yet, but will be soon. The event will be posted to www.geocaching.com very soon. Watch for an event called Scotch, On the Rocks and put in your RSVP. If you have gear please bring it along so there will be plenty to go round.

Well I will plan on making this one. I just need to find a place to rent the gear or is there going to be gear there we can use to make the climb? I think I have a harness of sorts but not sure if it the type for outdoor climbing. I always wanted to do the Acacheraphobia cache but don't have the gear for it. I marked my calendar.
Nice video, it sure looked windy that day!

It appears as thought the helmit cam adds fifteen pounds...all to my hips. Good work frosty guy. I just got back from a nice tour with the fireweed cachers...time to get back into the swing of things.
This climbing weekend is on the highway or is it at Lions Head?

The climbing clinic should publish tomorrow. It will be July 19 from 8:30am-1:00pm. It will begin in the McHugh Creek parking area and be a progressive event as we journey down the road between McHugh Creek and Beluga Point for some repelling and climbing education and adventure. Bring your spirit of adventure and your willingness to learn as well as a camera and come join in the fun. This will be both technical and hands-on. Bring gear to be outside for several hours.
If you have your own climbing harness bring that and a helmet. Don't forget your climbing gloves.
See you all on the rocks.

Awesome, We plan to attend (zakthemaster, wolfmaster1 and myself). It will also give wolfmaster1 another chance to look for the wallet he lost there about a month ago. P.S. If you find a wallet with an eagle symbol on it in the McHugh Creek area, please tell my son or me.

The morning started out a bit wet and with MTboy on injured reserve. So we started the technical, educational portion of the day out on the bluff and began the hands-on portion of what everyone had been shown and what do you know, the winds calmed and the rains stopped and the day turned out to be incredible. The tide was out and so folks were able to take the trek to Gilligan's island after they had dropped over the cliff.
We had a good group out and had a great time teaching everyone and watching everyone learn and overcome fears and have so much fun. I think 17 people went over the edge for the first time and I think everyone except for MTboy went over the edge at least once.
It was a great turn out and was tremendous fun. Thanks everyone for making this such a good time.
Congratulations to the young and the young at heart who all braved their fear of acacheraphobia and overcame, it was a great day for everyone there.
We have a few new geocachers who are hooked on all the things that this sport can add to their lives and the fun and the friendly people. Thank you all for showing up.
Until the next one, Cache On!
