I was thinking of getting a GPSMAP 60CSx but I saw the new VistaHCx so I may get that instead.

Eureka! We never could come up with an answer because we did not know the question. Everyone thinks that it is a problem with us, going out every day and every night talking about or searching for caches. BUT IT IS NOT ABOUT US! As we have all seen (and wept about) if we do not cache every day or so, our GPS’s die! So be kind and take care of your GPS by taking it out every day. ;D ;D ;D

I was out today and stopped to do the AKEMT cache by Spenard Rec Center. When I got there I didn't have the coords so I put it in my pocket. Went and looked anyway and found the cache SL and went back to the truck. I got in and left reached for my GPSr to go to another and it wasn't in my pocket. Drove back and saw it on the ground. I picked it up and it was dead.
Incase anybody is wondering a GPSr won't hold up under the weight of a truck.

OK, diamond crystal and titanium frame with all circuits sealed so that it will stand up to being driven over or maybe will have to ask pelican to design a case (like the IPOD case) that you can see trough the case and use the GPS with out removing it.

I've just been scratching my head wondering if the same evolutionary flaw that prompts a cacher to buy a Garmin is the same one that causes the person to leave their GPS on the outside of their cachemobile when they drive off.

SCORE! However, I'm sticking with my Garmin... Not that I've never driven off and left something behind. I left the GPSr on a phone booth at Merrill Field once... and I recall something being left behind for a bit on a SoCal caching trip once too!

Wonder if this phenomenon is part of an insidious plot by Garmin...coat the GPS with a chemical or tranmit EMF to the user that over time causes them to have short term memory loss and place their GPS in harm's way. Then they destroy the GPS and have to buy a new one. Wonder if Dr. Bleh is somehow involved!

I was thinking of getting a GPSMAP 60CSx but I saw the new VistaHCx so I may get that instead. But if you get a 60CSx and run over it, it probably won't break. To the rest of you crazy kids: A Magell- what?

Well a new Vista HCx is on order and should be here early next week. Although I don't think I will test the durability of this one with the truck.
