Congratulations to one of Alaska's star geocachers (and a genuine nice guy!) on his receipt of a national award for professional excellence.
WarrenPeace developed and implemented a curriculum which included the "Geocaching in Anchorage" project - partnering with the Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau to publish a slick full-color brochure touting Anchorage as a geocaching destination for visitors from all over the world. He's done more than anyone I know to introduce the geocaching game to the next generation in a responsible way.
Here's the press release (published 10-24-07) from the Anchorage School District:

ASD Middle school teacher wins Milken Educator award
Michael Warren, an eighth-grade language arts teacher at Central Middle School of Science, was awarded the national Milken Educator award during a surprise ceremony today at the school. Warren will receive $25,000 from the Milken Family Foundation later this spring.
"Michael works tirelessly with students to help support them both academically and emotionally," said Central Assistant Principal Carrie Sumner. "He created a safe place for students to have their lunch and he works with them on a one-on-one basis during his planning time to build relationships with students that need extra connections."
Sumner also says Warren is a mentor to fellow coworkers, helping them find their voice and coaching them to strive for their professional aspiration.
Warren is in his fourth year of teaching at Central. In that time, he created and piloted a Global Positioning System-based curriculum, which led to many Central staff incorporating GPS technology into their classrooms.
A committee formed by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development identifies and evaluates educators and administrators for the award. The Milken Family Foundation makes the final section based on educational talent, accomplishments beyond the classroom, leadership, and engaging and inspiring presence. Up to 100 winners nationwide are selected each year.

NorthWes beat me to it! I just received the School District notice in my inbox and was looking for the right heading to post it under. (sorry, Mr. Warren, for ending that sentence with a preposition!) Central MS is known for having some of the best teachers in the ASD, if not the U.S. (the reason I drove my kids across town to go there) and, obviously, Mike Warren is one who stands out among them! CONGRATULATIONS!! And thank you for all you have done and continue to do for the kids and for the Anchorage geocaching community!!

Congratulations Mr. Warren, it is cool to see you get the award. Too bad I left Central before the geocaching/landmark class started up.
