I was out with 2 of my kids and we searched for the Lake cache N 61° 13.774 W 149° 47.074 We didn't find it however when we were leaving the area my son spotted the lid to a ammo can so we searched a little longer and recovered the bottom as well as some of the contents of the cache to include the log book. I sent a e-mail out to the owner but don't know what to do with the cache. I brought it home in hopes of drying it out and getting the mud out of the items I recovered. If the owner doesn't contact me within a couple days how do I handle this? I didn't want to leave it out and be considered geolitter so I policed it up. I know my solution isn't the best one but I saw no apparent hide and my GPS battery died (forgot to pack extras doh!). Any advice would be appreciated.

Recovery efforts continue on cache contents. Hoping get get the mud out of the stuffed toys and dry the log book. Inside of the box is dry now so we are making progress. I searched geocachealaska's member list and I didn't see the cache owners name and he has hides in AK, WA, and HI. But it appears he is from Alaska. I plan to restash the cache at lake location once I get everything dried out should be tonight. Also going to bring in a trash bag and do a quick cleaning of the area since there was a bit of trash all over.

Those coords are for "Goals" is that the one that is gone? If it was me, I would just put the contents in a new ammo can if you can't repair it, put it back where it was and send the owner a note. If he/she sends you back a reply great, if not, no big deal. Again, I don't think there are any rules for this. I have taken over a couple caches where the owner unable to maintain them, this may or may not be the case with that cache.
Thanks for taking the time to fix it!!!!

Just trying to do the right thing. The can is in good shape. Just needs some TLC. And I am really hoping to salvage the log book for the guy. My son and I will be heading back out to place it back and do some cleaning and a quick hunt for any items that may have been missed that belong in the cache.

Those coords are for "Goals" over near Mtn View park area. That owner also has a large barrel cache "Central Park" that has been begged to be cleaned/deodorized. Although the owner has appeared on line recently, most emails or request for cache maint have been ignored. You're doing a great deed. I recommend clean it up/place it back under the sticks, and hope for the best. Good job.

My son and I will make it a point to check it out and do what needs to be done and if the owner does't own up I will do what I can. As its just not healthy.

Just a quick update. I exchanged a few e-mails with the Lake Cache owner and replaced it at ground zero. Should be back and running after he checks it next week.
