I'm pretty pleased with all the new updates that Groundspeak has rolled out on the geocaching.com website. They've been in development for months now, and include a 'personal statistics' tab and a 'Lists' tab (with 'Favorites' & Bookmarks) on your personal profile page, and a few other little tweaks here and there. The best of the best is the 'Favorites' feature, which allows you to give a 'Favorite' point to a cache you deem particularly worthy of notice. Available to premium members, the feature gives a cacher a 'favorite point' to award for every ten caches found. Thus, if you've found a hundred caches, you're in possession of 10 'Favorite' points. You can award one point to a cache you've found (yes - you can go back and award retroactively!). Why is the 'Favorite' feature soooo worthy of praise? Here's three reasons:- Cachers can 'Favorite' placements they deem worthy of 'top ten percent' notice - for style, view, ingenuity, or whimsy
- Cachers can click on a cache page's 'Favorite' button and see who has awarded a 'Favorite' point
- Cachers can view the listing for an entire state and sort the caches by 'Favorite' point, to see what other cachers deem the most noteworthy caches in, say, Hawaii. That's a handy feature when planning travel to a particular area.
It's nice there's now a site feature which provides the opportunity for positive feedback on cache placements in a clearly visible and trackable fashion. Check it out - it's yet another reason premium membership is worth the money.
