The Boy Scouts of America have released the requirements for earning the Geocaching Merit Badge today. While the merit badge booklet's not yet available, publication of the requirements means Scouts can get engaged in earning this latest in the long line of merit badges available to teach specialized skills. The Geocaching merit badge fits in nicely with Scouting's 100 year celebration - and with the Cache to Eagle program established to highlight Eagle Scout projects in communities nationwide. As an Eagle Scout, I especially appreciate the focus placed on ethics, preparedness, and good map skills in this excellent introduction to the world of geocaching. I've attached a PDF copy of the merit badge requirements to this post for interested Scouters out there. Let's not forget that the Girl Scouts have had an 'Interest Project' for quite a while now called "Hi Tech Hide N Seek" which has a broader focus than simply geocaching. Completion of the IP earns a patch - and details can be seen HERE online. Attachments:

Wish this badge was available when I was a scout! Glad to see this happen.

They are going to be doing some sort of Geocaching event at the jamboree in Seward this year too. I got an e-mail from one of the members of the committee and offered my help but I think they have it already. Guess I will have to push the grandson to join so I can have some more fun in scouts. Always enjoyed the program of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts... , Worked on many Eagle scout Projects, Silver award, and Gold Award projects too... am a Woodbadge "Owl" too for those who know what that is!
