Has geocaching been canceled? Seems that the entire GroundSpeak site is gone. DNS look up can't find such an address on the internet since yesterday evening. Possibly a major server meltdown? Hope they have a good data backup system in place.

Hmm... I'm having the same problem. It's always slower on the weekends, but now it's just down.

After doing some digging, I found out the Data Center in Seattle that hosts Groundspeaks serve had a fire and a massive outage. They hope to have it back up later today. Do a #geocaching search on Twitter or #FisherFire to find links and updates.

If there is any problem with data loss/corruption, remember that I had 36,000 finds prior to that. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I sure hope my stock doesn't go down! I don't remember how many caches I had found so far but I just passed LBK!

It looks like Groundspeak needs to work on their DR plan, their site has been down since very early this morning. I hope everything and everyone is alright. I did discover another Groundspeak site during the outage, but have not been able to confirm it is really a Groundspeak site or a spear phishing spoof. Does anyone know the legitimacy of geocachingadmin.com?

I don't know much more than what's on the news broadcast, but the hope is that power will be restored later this evening. Once there's electricity the servers will start back up and all will be well.
Of course your "find" history will be gone, so we'll all start with zero finds again. ;D Just kiddin' Hang in there!

It appears to me that all is not well yet. I have problems with the maps and my system has to restore a few of the pages. Some areas can't be restored. Some pages can't be downloaded. Maybe I will check again when back in WA.
