Coolness! So what about the areas where there are no caches?

The hunt will only be in grids where there are caches.

I looked at the Washington DeLorme Challenge. Wow. I also noticed it's got key components built by members of the 2005 Alaska Cache N Dash!
Can't wait to get to work on this project... so much fun stuff to do - so many other things sucking up my time (like work... etc etc)

I have fixed Flo-Jo. I know a few people who solved the puzzle but the cache was missing. I did archive it pretty darn fast and was unsure of how to hide it again without it getting muggled. We'll see, and who knows, it could last for years.

Now I remember I was with her. I had to reach high and deep to retrieve this one when I found it and so did the Eagle. Did you reach in high and deep? I find caches usually migrate from it's original hiding place. Hmmmm........

A new cache that will define the word challenge. Stay tuned! We tried to make a Delorme Challenge for Alaska but the task became bogged down in what grids would count and which wouldn't. It would have been a difficult challenge. The challenge we came up with is still plenty challenging: www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=097e999c-fafc-4f29-afde-42451a6044a3Some of you have already found caches that qualify for the challenge. Please email me the number of caches that you have found that qualify for the challenge and I'll include them on the cache page. Thanks!

I'd sure need more then just time off from work but lots of money to get me to all the places that have these caches! Guess maybe for the not so serious cachers out there we'd have one for the road series from Homer to Eagle and Circle and DeadHorse and Valdez, that would be a challenge but not quite as fun as yours! Lots of work on that one. I only have Matsu and Anchorage right now. Just haven't been able to get much out of town since coming back from Japan.

How do we know what borough a cache is in, most are obvious but where are the borders? Example; if I find a cache in Whitter does that count for a find in Valdez/ Cordova or Anchorage, what if its in the Portage area, is that one Anchorage, Kenai, or Valdez/ Cordova??

You can cross reference the State using the census map labor.state.ak.us/research/cgin/cenmaps/statemap.htm and your GPS or a map to where the cache is located. The Borough boundaries are fairly well defined.

Is there a cache in every borough? It looks as though Wade Hampton is cacheless...perhaps one of the last county/boroughs in the nation without one...I think I have found caches in 8. I like this cache idea. However, it will be a long time before it is completed.

Uff da! I wish there was still a MarkAir and that my wife was still working for them. Finishing off this challenge would cost me several thousand dollars and a tens of thousands of Alaska Airline frequent flyer miles. I built our bookmark list so folks can see an example of how to document their borough and census area finds: LBK Challenge List

I thought the rules stated that virtuals would not count toward finds for the Challenge cache. I just want to make sure I am understanding the rules correctly. I will put my bookmark together as I have several boroughs already and if virtuals will count, I am going to make a special "vacation" trip to go get another from the unfound list and visit some old friends in the process. I will have to look in the area as when I looked last summer there were not too many if any actual caches in that area, but I will check again. (Bristol Bay Borough, there are a few of RdHdStpChilds in the Dillingham area and another which meljo and a select few have that can no longer be gotten too unless you work for the private industry which owns the land it is on). It will take a while to get this one done, but oh can you imagine the photos possible from this one...

I thought the rules stated that virtuals would not count toward finds for the Challenge cache. Ooops...straight off the cache page: "All cache types count as finds or hides for the Challenge with the exception of events (CITO included), virtual and webcam caches." I'll change my Kenai Peninsula Borough cache to a physical cache. Thanks, FrostG1anT!

I may still try and make a run at one of the most amazing places in Alaska and grab a Moun10bike cache (GC74DB Valley of 10,000 Smokes) on the unfound list and see if I can get something else while I am there. I found my first benchmark in Bristol Bay, the top of Johnson Hill (the highest point in Bristol Bay..elevation 168') back in the mid 80's. I have never logged it but I have been to it more than any other benchmark as I spent many many years just down the beach from there.
