I was looking at Alaska's geocache placements in far off reaches and noticed the cache in New St. George. It is GC1CJQV. Flights on Pen Air in June are 410 dollars. If you don't know where St. George is, check it out on google earth...it is in the middle of the bering strait. Here is a link on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._George,_Alaska. I enjoy dreaming of these caches so I thought I would share it. I don't know all the logistics once you got there but I do know it would be a trip of a lifetime!!!! It is at least worth checking out on google earth and dreaming a bit and maybe a watchlist addition to see what sucker is the first person to head out!

Yes, there are a lot of really cool places to visit in Alaska. I could be talked into going out there, especially if timed with when the walruses haul out on the "nearby" (everything is relative after traveling that far in Alaska) beaches. I can't wait for retirement when I'll have lots of time to explore this Great Land.

My Alaska geocache 'bucket list' includes visiting Kotzebue, Barrow, Kodiak and Southeast Alaska. I keep watching those Alaska Airline 'specials' hoping the stars would align for those spots. In the meantime, I need to return to Fairbanks and Valdez to geocache. Mtboy - St George would be SO COOL!

Only $410 to St George? That seems cheep, considering the distance. It would be neat to go there, FTF or not. But is the cache still there? I would hate to go all the way there, figure out how to get from the airport to the cache, then find out USFWS took the cache away.

Not to toot my own horn here, but I wish someone would find my remote Allen River cache coord.info/GC2ZFPCand the much less remote but still yet-to-be-found Uplifted cache coord.info/GC344HBoh, and wait - how about the more recently placed Skull Island (Isla de los muertos) cache . . . coord.info/GC4EWGYjust saying some FTF's might be closer than you think ;-)

Need a boat that can handle a weekend on PWS to do such a thing. Not easy to come by, or I'd be there.

With enough advance notice, I might be able to help get people to Uplifted - it is only 12 miles by boat from Cordova - can be done in a small skiff on a nice day.
Skull Island is on a lake so it is easy - I'll even loan out my kayak for that.
Allen River (nowhere near PWS) is a little more difficult, but might be arranged through a local guy who is now doing glacier tours by boat (to cross the river) and 4 wheeler.
Anyone seriously interested in trying to get to these please feel free to contact me and I will try to help arrange the transportation from Cordova.

I'm now watching especially close the Alaska Airline specials, hoping for a good Cordova fare.

Not that I'd know anything about this , but the cache sounds like it was located on Refuge land, which is against the guidelines. It's archived now, but I've heard that some Earthcaches are coming to some remote places in the Aleutians... (poke)
