The Turnagain Arm trail, sometimes known as the Old Johnson Trail, is now closed between the Potter and McHugh Creek trail heads. A brown bear was possibly wounded during a charge/confrontation incident midday Sunday (8-15-10) and Chugach State Park authorities have closed that section of the trail for at least several days. The trail has been reopened as of 8-19-10, but park rangers urge extra care on this section of trail.

Believe it or not, there are still bear tracks being found occasionally all over Chugach State Park trails (and BLM trails) right now. Not all bears are denned-in for the winter yet...
