Will GeocacheAK send a representative to any of the open houses or give written comment on the Chugach Access Plan? Is anyone interested in reviewing the Plan together? Public comment must be given by May 3rd. There are open house meetings coming up in Anchorage, Indian, and Eagle River and I am interested in attending one or more of the evening sessions with other interested cachers. The plan is available online at: dnr.alaska.gov/parks/units/chugach/chugachaccess.htm[/url]To paraphrase, the purpose of the plan is: "aimed at securing and improving public access to Chugach State Park. The plan will guide ... the development and placement of access points along the boundary of Chugach State Park." Here are the areas the plan covers: Eklutna-Peters Creek Unit Eagle River & Ship Creek Units Hillside Unit Turnagain Arm Unit Meetings: Indian February 23rd 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Indian Valley Bible Chalet's Fellowship Hall Anchorage March 5th 11:30 am - 1:30pm Atwood State Office Building Room 240, 555 W. 7th Ave. Eagle River March 9th 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Eagle River Town Center Community Room, 12001 Business Blvd. #170 Anchorage March 10th 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Campbell Creek Science Center Multipurpose Room, 5600 Science Center Dr.

I have submitted my comments, recieved the read reciept and will be attending the meeting at the CCSC on March 10th. I am doing this for personal reasons and not acting on behalf of GeocacheAlaska! though.

I'll be submitting written comments that focus on public access to the Chugach front range from Stuckagain Heights, Bear Valley, and Potter Valley since there are a lot of classic ridge walks that are endangered or have been lost due to private development being allowed without corresponding trail easements.
I will also mention geocaching as a desired ongoing, low impact activity in the State Park.
