Please post your ideas about GeocacheAlaska! website content in this thread. As the webmaster, I'd like to freshen up the website as well as provide content that you find useful and would enjoy reading. I welcome material prepared by others and will post/link to it if content appropriate. I'll start: 1. Update Land Manager requirements for Prince William Sound and other designated areas. 2. Update the Photo Gallery. 3. Update the "Contact Us" page. 4. "Fix" the link to these forums...the button displays properly on some pages and not others, but it always links to this location all right. 5. Update the Project List. 6. Update the Alaska Cache Info page including adding link to Northwest Trail Project mapset. 7. Upload South Central Alaska DeLorme Challenge gpx file. What do you want to see/read???

Found your issue with the link button on Home page. Your missing the image file in your "_derived/" folder. You list the image named as "ext1006_cmp_geocachealaska110_vbtn.gif" Hope this helps.

A nice clean banner for the top of the web page would be good I think. Maybe have the white geocacheAlaska logo fade into the blue?

I got going on this today while keeping an ear on the daughters' "sleep over" event that started at 1300. Off topic, why do they call them "sleep overs?" They should really be called "awake overs," shouldn't they? Please post your ideas about GeocacheAlaska! website content in this thread. I welcome material prepared by others and will post/link to it if content appropriate. I'll start: 1. Update Land Manager requirements for Prince William Sound and other designated areas.2. Update the Photo Gallery. Started by stripping out old photos and loading in photos from this year's three CITO events. Coming soon...photos from other events of the summer. - Event photos posted. 3. Update the "Contact Us" page.4. "Fix" the link to these forums...the button displays properly on some pages and not others, but it always links to this location all right. Thanks AKFossil, for the detective work! 5. Update the Project List.6. Update the Alaska Cache Info page including adding link to Northwest Trail Project mapset. Also added the Challenge caches. 7. Upload South Central Alaska DeLorme Challenge gpx file. What do you want to see/read??? 8. Swap out the photos on the home page. 9. Add the GeocacheAlaska! logo to the banner.

The updated gallery is looking really good as are the other changes, I just needed to explore a little further than my normal quick forum check. Keep up the good work!

You've really pared down that task list!
Which logo did you want up top? Is there a format or size you'd like it in?

The new look of the frontpage looks great, such a change after years of hardly noticing the same old pics. Thanks

New pictures are great. The Geocache Express picture should be credited to Blazingpathways instead of me.

Hmmm ... I'm trying this to see if I can expand my use of this forum. (I'm so hard to train!) Could we consider moving the entire regional section of the Forum up to just below the General section? I realize that it's probably just because I am active there and have to page down through a significant number of thread headings just to get there, many of which appear to be totally dead. (No archive function?)

Having recently taken my position as the Webmaster for the GeocacheAlaska! site, I'm returning to this update list and asking for any input on things people would like to see.
The whole site is ready for a makeover with some link fixing and timely updates throughout to present some fresh images, layouts, and current information.

A couple GeocacheAlaska! website updates.... A new page has been added that has every membership newsletter published available for quick download as a PDF. Each new edition will be added to the site shortly after they are published and distributed via email to the membership list. Look on the navigation button list on the left side for the Newsletters button. A "favicon" icon was added to the site. In all modern browsers, you will now see the famous wolf howling at the moon icon in the address bar and associated with your bookmarks for the site. Note that it may take a short wait or a reload before you'll see this icon after your first visit. Here it is: A total site "refresh" is in the design phase. Suggestions are welcome! If there is a website out there that you think is a good example of what you'd like ours to look like, please post a link and we'll take a peek at it. Attachments:

how about taking the old event page, and call it past events, and link the event page to the calendar in here or where ever... I know I have had comments the event page is outdated... so if we have a past event links, they can see what is on that page... Just a thought... Have we talked about updating the page from graphics style to more of a "wordpress" style?

Actually, I think the past events stuff is going to be repurposed into a coming events page with more info on how to put together events and how to involve GCAK in them. A history of past event caches isn't really needed except in specific cases. All past events hosted by GCAK can be found with a simple search by our GC username (which I can provide a preset link to, one click and you'll see the GCAK-hosted events list as of the moment you click).
We are changing to a modern site using CSS & XHTML. No, I'm not going to make a blog-looking site. I hate blogs. But I also detest the FrontPage guts we have behind the current site. It will be better, with a face-lift that will be more extreme than the upgrade I just completed to these forums. The problem is that I keep getting swamped with work on all these other committee projects and barely have time to get into the hundred hours of coding that is required of the site update. But, we'll get there.
