Has there been a move to create a GC club in the Valley? I have heard of some GC events, and that is great. Well, what about a monthly club for newbies (like me) to learn from the "old hats".
I would be willing to work with anyone on creating a club and maybe hosting a GC event in the spring as a "kick off" event for the club.
My son and I enjoy GC and know that there are other muggles that would be interested.
thx

I spend quite a bit of time in the valley and would be happy to meet you for a day of caching sometime. My 7 year old nephew caches with me a lot and we have done quite a few of the valley caches, but we can always scrape together a few to find. I also have a good friend out there who has been talking about starting, maybe we could just do an informal group thing like we have been doing in Anchorage. We just pick a day and time and post the info here, whoever shows up is great and it's all quite casual. Last night we did one that started with pizza and ended up with a group of 8 doing a multi cache and several others.

There is an Intro event tomorrow at Kincaid Park in Anchorage. I know this is short notice, but it will be a good chance to meet some e new geocachers and some of the more seasoned vets and hone your caching skills. The event is $10 which covers the MOA park fees for usage and helps the parks so we can keep on caching. There is also a large social event Sept 29 at Abbott Loop Community Park. This is a potluck with BBQ and should be quite fun. There are talks of other events in October and November. Watch the newest caches in Alaska page for more information.
I know several valley cachers and they will be in attendance at Indian Summer, it may be a good time to come into town and meet some of your neighbors.
Cache On!

AKDogMom, that would be fun to do. I have only met one other GC and it was while I was trying to be FTF for Moose Alley. Neither of us found it after about 45 minutes. FrostG1anT, I have seen the event posted and was considering the event for today and then also the event on 29 Sept. It would be nice to meet other Valley cachers, but have to work everything into my home schedule and those weekends did not work for outside activities. FLYRFN, well you are semi-correct on a CIVTO. That did cross my mind. In that it could be a "kick off" meeting, CITO and potluck. And also the Valley group could "sponsor a mile" and have a CITO sign posted. We in the Valley are proud of the term, "Valley Trash", have you seen the bumper stickers?. It keeps the Anchor Town snobs out of our beautiful area. ;D

I know this was a post that started a few years back, but I'd like to start this conversation again. I'm an organizer and working with AKBFly to put something together for Wasilla's Winter Fest and Games (formerly known as Iditarod Days). Please contact me or AKBFly if you would be interested in helping and we welcome your ideas. Thank you. NorthernRobin

The GeocacheAlaska! by-laws have a provision for local chapters. It's be great to see chapters spring up all over the State!

I certainly wouldn't mind help a local chapter get started!

It has been 2 months since I checked on this thread. NCcachegeek does what he says. He's fitting in nicely with the valley cachers.
Good to have you and Hideme on board!

Sounds like a great idea to me. I'd be more than willing to participate.

A great way to get involved is to attend our monthly eduvents at Mat-Su college. Also, look for other upcoming events.
