Hey folks, I'm headed to North Carolina for Christmas, and geocaching will, no doubt, be happening! So, if you happen to have some TBs or coins that need to head east, get in touch with me!
I was thinking about having an event to collect some and have a Kenai Holiday party, but I don't know that it will work out. We'll see...it's short notice for an event, but not too short of notice to meet up somewhere or assign a cache midway to drop whatever you might find that needs to head east.
Let me know!

I just hijacked a baseball in SLC that wants to go to Boston's Fenway Park (why don't people put goal tags on their travelers??? But, that's a whole different topic). If we can do a handoff, that'd be great. Otherwise, I'll move it to Tulsa the week of the 16th.
By the way, depending on which area of NC you will be visiting, be certain to visit at least on of WVTim's caches near the NC/WV border. He collaborated with Seattle's Dayspring to create some caches guaranteed to bring a smile to one's face, some guaranteed to make you think to get to the log, and at least one that will flat out make you dizzy.

I'll be in Durham, but my geocaching parents travel quite a bit around the state. Let's see if we can figure out a handoff. Are you around ANC the next 2 weekends? Or, is it possible for us to find a cache suitable for a drop in Summit Pass or Cooper Landing?

Perhaps we can coordinate with Mike to have a drop somewhere inbetween? That, or I will be driving HOM>>ANC on Christmas Eve to fly out at 12:50am from ANC on 25DEC. I don't know that I can make a stop for a cache that requires a hike, but if we can find a P&G somewhere that is a likely stop like Girdwood's gas station, etc, that might work. \ I'll have 2 non-geocachers in the car...who really want to get to ANC post haste.

And there's always the US Mail...

And there's always the US Mail... Funny you say that... My parents and I have often had our own "portal" or "stargate" when we come across TBs that seem to be wallowing in their missions to move east or west. I'm trying to congregate, Wes! But seriously, if you can't make it down, or we can't arrange a hand-off of some kind, I could happily take a mailed TB/coin if you have one that needs to get east.

Only an hour.....hmmmm.....guess we will have to go somewhere after that!!!! Precisely! It's too bad we don't have enough sunshine to grab a boat ride across the bay for some of those caches I still haven't found (and within my "home" radius! For shame!).

Hey, if the water is as calm as today, and the air temp as high, I can just move the event forward to sunrise, and we can all swap bugs on the way to get some caches across the bay.

Hmmm... I need to go visit my #2 son-in-law's folks over in Tutka Bay... I wonder if they'd take me on a boat ride to geocache? I could train 'em how, so they could add that to their adventure lodge repertoire!

I could train 'em how, so they could add that to their adventure lodge repertoire! What lodge are they at? Round trip on a water taxi is ~$80, and they will only get us to one spot. Anyone have a boat and want to make the drive down? If the weather is nice, I bet we can get some folks to split boat gas. There is a boat rental company that lets you have at for $575/day, plus fuel. 22' Hewes. Not sure if they are in the harbor this time of year, however. www.homerboatrentals.com/how_to_rent.html

Rick Harness at "A Seaside Adventure" - (not the Tutka Bay Wilderness Lodge!) - Rick's said he'd come pick me up if I'd get my lazy rear down there to visit. I just have to make sure not to show when he's already got paying guests! They do adventure kayaking etc over there.

I just have to make sure not to show when he's already got paying guests! They do adventure kayaking etc over there. I'd love to get something set up with a boat and a set of cachers to split gas to get around KBay for some of the caches on the other side. Seldovia has some (including a FTF opportunity) caches and a regular ferry service year-round. Some water taxis operate year-round as well. In the summer, there are more options to get to Seldovia. Other than that, there are many caches on spits and shorelines across the Bay. It's just hard to get there with a water taxi because of the limited drop/pick up option. A boat "of our own" would be the best bet. Perhaps not doable for this event, but certainly something for us to take up in another thread!

So far, not a single "Will Attend" log. What's a guy gotta do to get some attendance at events in Homer?! Not even a peep beyond Ray's note. I'd say I would have a contest or giveaway to lure people in, but do you folks think it would help?

did you contact the local cahers there? I know there probably aren't too many but a lot of casual cachers don't get notifications of new caches and events. I find a personal e-mail helps draw people, not everyone but it will work for a few.

Welcome to Homer!! You'll either get no one or unexpectedly 40 will show up! All or nothing, at least in my experience. You'll get a good cup of coffee either way, right? I think the biggest issues you are facing include: 1. You and I are the only steady cacher presence here. There are other cachers, but they aren't consistent, don't have alerts set up, and don't check for new listings regularly. 2. It's the weekend before Christmas. Most of us are double booked already, or are on flights out of Anchorage this weekend. Fuzzy's idea of contacting cachers directly is good. I've done that before and at least gotten a few responses, but not necessarily any better attendance. Sadly, I don't think a giveaway or contest will help much. Unless you're giving away an ATV with a plow? I could use one of those right now....
