The guidelines for hiding a cache recommend that : "If you don't have a hint, leave it blank." At times I forget to decrypt a hint and have to do it on the trail. Sometimes after a few minutes of decoding I come up with something like "Bah...you don't need a hint", or "Bah...no hint needed". I wish more folks would go with the caching guidelines, and if there is no "helpful" hint leave this area blank.

There's an entire thread of at least nine pages in the geocaching.com forums called Useless Hints. Pretty funny reading!!!

Feeling guilty about some of my hints, I altered them to make them short and helpful. If you want to see another unhelpful hint look at this one for Stonehenge.

And we referred to the hint and BAM, Found it! ;D Speaking of hints there is a series of caches here in OKC called No Hints No Help I found pretty fun. We have done two of them so far.

Stonehenge isn't even a film canister anymore. You guys have got me checking and re-checking my future hides. Had one all ready last week and then had "attachment" issues. Running out of places at the rate Scobey is placing those micros.

Want to contribute to the Tour of Anchorage series? There's some room along that route... it's a bit tough to access in some areas. I know the angst over helpless hints... I usually learn more about the hide I'm approaching from prior logs and photos (if it's a well-seasoned one...). It's hunting online vs hunting in the field... both can produce a find! And that rush at being the FTF - well, that's grand. However, that goofy stupid helpless feeling when you finally decide not to look anymore for that supposedly easy-to-find cache that three different brand-new cachers found just the day before... that's an emotion that really gets wound up when it bumps into a goofy useless hint, eh?

I edited my listing. I didn’t realize it was an issue with as many times I have seen it. Sorry to have ruffled any feathers out there.

What with those hilarious logs you write you've more than made up for the lack of a clue or two! Besides, my wife thinks using a clue to find the cache is bogus (she's so hardcore!) Seriously - you write great cache logs! Looking forward to meeting you at the event coming up (and we may have met already...) - I value folks with a sense of humor - I'm in 'customer service' and the lack of humor wears my patience a bit thin some days...

I just removed all hints from my cache listings that are not real hints. It's almost shootout time. NorthWes, you need to have your daughter come over and help you move some heavy stuff tonight, I have to win that coin. ;D
