Police issued a warning to trail users in the Far North Bicentennial Park / BLM Campbell Tract to "to buddy up and carry cell phones after two women were reportedly chased by a man wielding a hatchet on Rover's Run on Wednesday." This refers to Wednesday 3-31-10. Read more about it at this LINK to the Anchorage Daily News. Please note cell phone coverage is spotty at best in this area. In other trail news, as Tomanoble has already reminded us regarding bears along Turnagain Arm, it's time to practice 'Bear Aware' travel in the FNBP & Campbell Tract. Although staffers at Wednesday night's Public Open House (on the management plan for BLM Campbell Tract) had not yet seen bear tracks, they noted that historically bears come out around this week on the Tract. Additionally, the Alaska Zoo bears are already out of hibernation and enjoying spring.
