You can have your opinion but I can't have mine. So let's all reread thisAnd I made a general comment.

You can have your opinion but I can't have mine. So let's all reread thisAnd I made a general comment. As far as I know I never made a comment in this forum naming anyone. I guess there are some folks who feel it was personal. It WASN'T intended that way. If we can't express our concerns here no matter how gruff they may appear without personal attacks then what is the use of having this forum?? I hope this is the end of the angst, please! FYI - Due to personal reasons, I am no longer on the GAK board and will no longer moderate these boards or maintain the web site. Happy caching!

Hmmmm... for the first time ever, meek mild-mannered NorthWes has had to take moderator action. I'm unhappy to have to do it, but I am tasked as moderator to ensure the guidelines are followed. My intervention involves a case of egregious (that's your new word for the day - it means 'flagrant or conspicuous) namecalling. It's not to be done; I have deleted the post and notified the poster.
Please remember we encourage lively conversation on diverse topics (it's one of the primary purposes of the forum), but do not tolerate actions outside the bounds of the previously stated guidelines for posting here. It is possible to converse politely while holding vigorously-defended positions which are diametrically opposed to other posters on the forum.

I dont know scobey since when is posting a thread titled lame caches addressing a concern? When you post "another great location for a ammo can or decon container RUINED by a nano" IN the log of "nano on a mountain" then immediately begin a thread here titled lame caches addressing nanos in non urban terrain.....its pretty clear its personal, then "tractor" gets attacked wich is owned by the same cacher it appears VERY personal. No worries your log in nano has since been deleted so as to not ruin the experience for everyone else. Dont cry "Im so misunderstood" because a lot of us understood you loudly and clearly.

I won't say it again! Wow! How one persons opinion can stir up a hornets nest!!! Take it as an opinion and leave it. )By the way if you'll look you'll see I've been saying this for over a year. Did you read the more civilized version by LBK? Where are your comments about that???

I'm staking out the boundaries as Moderator:
It's ok to state preferences. It's not ok to slam persons. It's ok to mention particular caches. It's not ok to slam a cache owner.
There's more than a fine line here.
Share your viewpoint persuasively without becoming defensive.
If a particular person comes across as a curmudgeon, read their other posts. Read their other remarks in other threads. Likely your first impression is right. Likely there's a lot of worth in the other person as well. Likely they'll never agree with you on the point in question. Likely you could become best caching buddies. It's happened to me, with some of the most unlikely persons.
The forums will not become flamefests.

then "tractor" gets attacked <Tugs on moderator hat> Okay, let's all take a deep breath. I might have missed a post or two, but I don't think "Tractor" got attacked. Po1ar chimed in saying she'd been there twice and then later chimed in and said she found it after her third attempt. I didn't see anything negative (inferred or explicit) in those posts. If she didn't like the cache, would she have kept going back? The forums really shouldn't be a place where one or two or three cachers repeatedly take swings at each other. (See NorthWes' guidelines above.) That ought to be taken offline through PMs or e-mails. I'm not singling anyone out because it takes two to tango, even if it's clear who pulled the pin on the first hand grenade and rolled it into the room. And in this case the instigator eventually offered an olive branch and expressed a desire to end the angst. If people want to pull up and talk about the merits/or not of certain types of cache placements or other issues, have at it. We don't really want to see the forums stay "MEAN" as they were described by AKBfly, do we? And if any one senses that I'm playing favorites or have a conflict of interest because I post in here so much a LBK, please call me on it via a forum post, a PM, or e-mail. I freely share my opinions more than most cachers in here, but I try hard not to be offensive or make it personal when doing so. <removes moderator hat>

I said from day 1 when this web site started that the Administrators should not use their caching names. If Joecacher the Administrator says something that bothers people, Joecacher the geocacher is "That Guy"!

If Joecacher the Administrator says something that bothers people, Joecacher the geocacher is "That Guy"! I have oldtimers disease on that one. My two cents. I think the problem starts with the "contact us" page on the Geocache Alaska web site: Ladybugkids, Fairbanks. Northwes, Anchorage. Scobey, Anchorage. I can see where someone might think that everything these 3 cachers do represents Geocache Alaska, when this is not the case. They are 3 individual cachers/ friends first and Geocache Alaska second. Maybe they should change their user names when they represent Geocache Alaska and back to LBK, Northwes, and Scobey when they have their caching hats on. Crow T Robot has been a member since 2003, and has 7 finds, do you think he has a different user name that seperates him from Geocaching.com and just being a cacher?? Can you imagine the fun of watching SouthEv moderate NorthWes?

LOL! I haven't found "Tractor" yet!! But I WILL!!! Haven't gone back for the 3rd attempt yet. I don't think it's a bad cache at all either. It's a real challenge and I like it! Just like "Spud". I got lucky there. I read the posts for "Spud" and cachers were going back 2, 3 and 4 times trying to find it. I'll keep looking till I get it. I've been taking geo-dog with me when I go look for "Tractor". He thinks if I stop it's time to play fetch. So I've been distracted while looking. But I WILL keep looking and Geo-dog will keep coming with me! LOL!!!!

I said be nice and that's not happening. The opening premise of the thread has pushed conversation to a level where despite efforts by most folks to be cordial, some persons are persisting in unacceptable flaming, so it's a wrap.
Moderator is locking the thread, having deleted the post which put the conversation out of bounds.
For the record, it's obviously not Po1ar's polite reply which caused this action.
