I'm not sure why powmia thinks the idea of a "charity" prize is a bad idea; though $25 is a little on the steep side for this gladiator. But I also like the idea of participants offering up the prizes. And for those who are just racing for the fun and prestige, they could request that the prize go to the next Mosquito on the list. So unless there is a good reason not to do so... Well, before I throw my idea out there, I will wait for council from powmia. Thanks, Ole, for a fun new way to enjoy our geocaching. That's it, just a fun new way to enjoy geocaching. If you win you win.....if you lose you lose. Let's just keep it that way, nice and simple.

I am putting up the prize(s) just so there are some spoils of victory to be handed out at the Christmas event or mailed to the winner. I don't expect anyone else to feel they have to buy anything except a mosquito coin to participate.
We have to keep our money ready to bet on NorthWes' next grandkid? Can they have another by Xmas? ;D

I like LBK's edits as well and I move to make them official! Seeing no dissenting votes, the motion to go with LBKs description passes. Now for Malcore's " The Great Alaska Mosquito Migration " contest name... All those in favor say I.... Those opposed say Nano cache... Hearing no Nano caches, the motion carried. Name: The Great Alaska Mosquito Migration Date 3/1/2007 to 12/1/2007 at 3:14 PM Alaska Daylight time. Description: This Alaska Mosquito Racer is entered in The Great Alaska Mosquito Migration Race. Alaska has more than enough mosquitoes, so we are exporting them one by one. This mosquito must keep moving or it will lay eggs in the nearest stagnant water and release a swarm of offspring that will forever haunt the cacher who hangs onto the coin for too long. To win, it must travel as far as it can from 3/1/07 to 12/01/07. Its owner will receive the spoils of victory with your help. Rules - Must be placed into an Alaskan cache then moved by someone else from cache to cache. I like this... I've been off the boards for a bit (housework/shopwork/no computer access time... whine... too many SoCal caches to log to cruise the forums... ... yeah!) I'm gonna warm up a couple of bugs and get 'em moving!

I respect simplicity, and in conjunction with ole's thoughts, I will not further complicate the Geocaching Racers Division... well, at least not with material items.
Thanks, powmia

Thanks, powmia I believe that is what a forum is for: To discuss matters in a sane aspect and arrive at conclusions/decisions. I have dropped out of various other forums due to the sometimes ridiculous responses I have received to inquiries (from geocaching to recreational vehicles). I have found this forum to be the best yet. A bit of humor is always welcome, but most of our responses have aided all those involved I think, and our humor is general in nature. Possibly there have been extreme out of order posts/responses, however, only the monitors would know that (quickly deleted and the posters banned from FTFing for a month). We, I hope, set an example for others to emulate.

Yesiree folks, the great Alaska Mosquito Race has begun. Folks, you can't tell one racer from another without a program. Get your program at www.geocaching.com/track/search.aspx?k=alaska+mosquito+racerFollow your favorite racer, determine the owner/trainer, keep tabs on distances traveled, the locations of each racer. It's all here and happening now for your enjoyment.

...and it's not too late to enter if you want to join the fray. There are twelve racers going or gone!

Christmas Event prizes based on Mosquito Racer spawn = Good; I'd wager another grandchild's not planned for delivery this year... But hey, you never know... except, if there's no news by mid-April you can make 'NO' a sure bet!

WooHoo! My Racer is on the way to Germany!!! Wow, first Scobey beats me out of the 'next grandchild' category, then his mosquito gets going farther than mine... Well, at least I'm money ahead on the grandchild front! But geez they're sure cute! I'm feeling the need to launch another 'Alaska Mosquito Racer'... Yeah - sentimental me, this one's gonna be named after our now-departed Golden Retriever 'Snoopy' ("Copper Acres' Search Warrant" - now there's a mouthful for a registered name!). Kind of a neat theme some of us doggy folks have going there, eh?

Man Germany is going to be hard to catch up with. Especially if I don't get Michilata out of my truck.

I picked up powmia's Mr. Tahoe tonight and have the option of dropping it back into an Anchorage cache, moving it ~260 miles to Fairbanks this weekend, or hanging onto it for two more weeks and taking it ~4200 miles to the UK . I'll do the bidding of the highest bidder (geocoinage preferred ) to keep powmia's coin in Alaska or move it far far away to even up the race with Scobey's coin that is Germany bound .

NorthWes' "Aero" has jumped out to an early lead, having made it to Colorado 2454 miles from its point of origin.
It looks like some of you need to click the "Recalculate Mileage" button on your coin's page because some coins that are showing zero miles have actually moved at least once.

Aero's a real flyer! Mr NW seems to be a veteran at this type of sporting event. Competition from all will require extreme luck. For example, if some adventurous cacher finds your racer, it might spend an eternal pit stop on some mountain peak.

Not that this was part of a plan, but I just found powmia's "Representing Retirees" coin at "In Plane Sight" this morning, effectively doubling the stakes .
