Is there a current permit number for 2011? Thank you! The new number is two posts above yours and is always available on the Land Managers page of the GeocacheAlaska! website. A copy of the permit is available Here.

The 2012 Chugach State Park Permit is in. Huge thanks to Cavyguy for doing all the legwork on this one! The permit number for 2012 is 12-004, which must appear on your cache containers. So be sure to get out and perform an Owner Maintenance trip to any caches you have in the Park. Please remember that routine maintenance visits are a required part of this permit. Cache owner's should enter an "Owner Maintenance" log after they complete this task. You can download the permit from the GeocacheAlaska Land Mangers webpage.

The 2013 Chugach permit is currently being delayed due to a shortage of staffing in the Chugach office. We have submitted all of the required paperwork and information so the waiting game is on. We are checking in with them on a regular basis but our permit, along with many other group's requests is taking much longer than usual. Please be patient. No hides will be published in the Chugach State Park area until the permit is in hand.

No hides will be published until the permit is in hand?
Is that right? can't we just use the old permit # ? Wont it suffice until we get the new one?
This is not going very well. If we require the permit to place caches, they need to be faster or we need to get them in sooner, so there are no delays.
I suggest we submit the permit for 2014 toady.
This is very disappointng.
besides the fact that this forum page nor GeoAk can not act as a regulation update site for allowable caches.

The expiration date on the most recent Chugach State Park permit is 2/24/2013. This forum and the GeocacheAlaska! Land Manager webpage serve merely as communication tools to let cachers know about current Land Manager geocaching policies and permit statuses (stati?). The Land Managers set the policies and issue the permits which the local Reviewer then reviews cache submissions against for compliance before publishing. besides the fact that this forum page nor GeoAk can not act as a regulation update site for allowable caches Fuzzybelly...I don't understand this comment. Can you rephrase it?

No hides will be published until the permit is in hand? That is correct. No new caches will be published within Chugach State Park boundaries until a current Chugach State Park geocaching permit has been issued. In the meantime, geocaches placed within Chugach State Park are being reviewed for compliance with all other guidelines and the location "held/reserved" until the new permit is issued. Once the new permit is issued, the Cache Owner must place the correct permit number on the cache page and on the geocache and comply with any other permit stipulations. Once all permit stipulations are met, the cache will be published. This is a compromise because, technically, geocachers should not be placing geocaches within Chugach State Park without a valid permit number in the first place. Cachers who are interested in helping with the permitting process are encouraged to become members of the Advocacy Committee by contacting NorthWes or cavyguy.

The Advocacy Committee could use help from anyone interested in keeping up the record of caches inside state park boundaries. Permits require periodic updates of those caches in the form of a list sent in to the permit office, and that's a requirement which will mean we need to stay on top of a periodic list update. That "period" of time isn't set in stone yet.
The process uses GSAK and "shape files" to sort through a pocket query, which then produces a list. It's a simple process once we have the shape files. Simple - if we have enough committee members! We'd like to have the state split out by regions to help spread the workload. Interior, Mat-Su, Chugach (huge park by itself), and Kenai Pen/PWS could each use a committee member for the respective regions. As geocaching has grown, park managers are asking for a bit more information. All we need is four folks willing to do a little GSAK computer work every few months to stay "up to date" to help speed up permit renewals and keep our permit updates current
Right now our Chugach permit request is caught in a backlog at Parks. Randy is working to get our request moved ahead, but it's in the State's hands. We could use your help now to be better prepared to file our 2014 request in late November 2013!

The 2014 Alaska State Parks Permit has been issued. The permit number is 14-KA-973. The permit number must appear on the cache container and the cache page. This permit applies to: Chugach State Park Mat-Su/Copper Basin Kenai Reiver Special Management Area Kachemak Bay State Park Prince William Sound/Resurrection Area The full permit will be uploaded to the GeocacheAlaska! Land Manager webpage shortly (the file is too big to upload to this forum and this forum won't accept zipped files). Please read all the stipulations before placing a cache in any of the affected parks. NorthWes is currently working to determine which State Parks, Recreation Areas, and Marine Parks fit within the "Areas" referenced on the permit. I expect the answer to be the permit applies to all State Parks parcels (Parks, Recreation Areas, Marine Parks) along the road system south of the Denali Highway, down the Richardson Hwy. to to Valdez, the Parks Hwy to Anchorage, Chugach State Park, and all State Parks parcels in Prince William Sound and the Kenai Peninsula. Once a definitive answer is provided, I will gin up gpx files folks can load into their GPSs and MapSource/Basecamp/GoogleEarth so they can know in the field and at home where the various boundaries are.
