Does anyone have any feedback on how well they work in the cold? The school is going to get a few but I have no idea how well they work so any help.
Thanks a million - Ole

It would appear that the jury is still out on touch screen durability and performance in temps like the ones we had here last week.
I thought it was the Oregon that used touch screen and the Colorado used the paddle type button at the top of the unit. I know there are several users here in town that have bought these units. It would be great to hear first hand their experiences.
I will bet that using the touch screen with a gloved hand would be a challenge. I'll just shlep along with my 60cx for as long as it will last.

I have the oregon and not an expert at anything hi tech...but my screen worked great, even in the sub zero temps...i always wear gloves...never a problem. I never had a colorado....but I like my Oregon 400t....it just sucks the life out of batteries much faster in the cold weather, which is true for anything with batteries, i guess.

Thanks for the report. We went with the 400s. sans touchscreen I may be able to check these out (with my life) for a geoevent down the road someday. I think there is 6 of them.

I don't have a Colorado, but I do have an Oregon 300. It's the one a step below ak4me's. ;D I really dig the touch screen Oregon. I have had it since September (my PFD gift) And it has been in the mud, the snow, -30 degrees, and I have had no problems what so ever. I am able to use the screen even with gloves or mittens on. It is also very user friendly. My favorite part besides the touch is the fact I can send or receive caches from other Oregon and Colorado users. And downloading my field notes and finds or DNF's are really easy and compatible with geocaching.com. I must say I also have no complaints and highly recommend it. The difference between the 400 and 300 is $100 dollars and the 400 comes with the topographical maps. I got the 300 cause I don't need those. At least not yet. Hope this helps you in your search! AKBFLY (arcticbutterfly) I am trying to shorten my name!
