Hi! Great question! I was thinking we needed to post an brief update on GeocacheAlaska!
The board actually just had a meeting this evening to address our progress since the December 5th Holiday Geobash and a board meeting on December 17th.
At the December 17th meeting, the board discussed what steps need to be taken on the state and federal levels to complete our applications for non-profit status. Tasks to complete included collecting necessary forms from the IRS, scouting banking institutions and their requirements for non-profits. We also discussed future coin projects and ideas regarding the website.
At tonights meeting, we had a status update and made some clarifications regarding organizational specifics that are necessary such as articles of incorporation to submit to the State of Alaska. We hope to have the incorporation paperwork, EIN paperwork, and bank account setup by the end of the month. The board will be meeting again on 1/30, but we will be working together inbetween now and then to try and get our tasks completed and be prepared to discuss the next necessary steps to take.
Thank you for taking an interest and your feedback is always appreciated :-)
SaidbyStacy, aka Stacy Byas Vice-President

My funding source is going to reallocate my membership money if I don't spend it soon (she really means it too!). Any updates?
Hey - 'charter member' sounds pretty cool... neat title, LBK.

There will be some updates soon and more information coming. As you can see scobey was able to move the domain to a more affordable hosting service and the Board has been working tirelessly on the tedious paperwork process that grew by an order of magnitude from what was anticipated originally due to the State of Alaska having its requirements. There have been several meetings of the Board recently and there is another in the coming weeks. We are hoping to get all of the T's crossed and I's dotted and are shooting for a projected roll-out next month of GeocacheAlaska! (GeAK!).
We are in the process of looking for a good lawyer who works with non-profits. If you know of a good lawyer who deals in business law and has non-profit experience we are interested. Please contact me offline and let me know.
More information will be forthcoming soon.
Cache On!

sigh... process. All good things require planting and watering, eh? I'd be a poor farmer - I'm impatient. That's why I prefer hunting... seek & harvest. I have reminded my funding source of the need to be p a t i e n t. She concurs that it takes time... Thanks for all the work you're doing, Greg - and the board too. Me - I'm gonna go look at my vacation pictures and dream of caches on warm Mexican beaches... sigh...

Laywers and geocaching? Wow, this sport is growing.
I am looking for an agent. If anybody knows one that can manage my geocaching career as well as keep a healthy rock star type image I would be much obliged.

Can someone post information on how to join GeocacheAlaska! and provide a link to Board meeting minutes?
I understand memberships were accepted at the event a few weeks ago, but I apparently missed how a person can join if he/she missed the event.
Also, it's my understanding Board of Director meetings have been happening and I think people would be interested in knowing what's being worked on. There may be opportunities for people to step up and help make things happen.

Have you guys thought of setting up a twitter account?
Doesn't need to be minute by minute tweets, but notice of pending meeting, or new cache posted, etc.
Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) and Anchorage School District (ASD) both use twitter for updates. simple, timely, etc.
See ya!

I know it has been a long time since there was a post with information as to what is going on with GeocacheAlaska! Inc. This was due to the State of Alaska holding up our filing paperwork. They have had it for a couple weeks prior to the Meet, Greet & Eat event and prior to its submittal they informed us that it would take about twenty minutes for them to process and file it. Something happened in the interim between that phone call and the paperwork arriving in Juneau as there is apparently only one person working in the Department of Corporations and processing all paperwork. This is the long way to explain that we are being held up by the legal paperwork from the State which puts on the hold all of the other work that we need to do in order to get the last of our paperwork together and move forward with the next steps of forming a non-profit organization as well as pursue the business that we formed for in the first place.
Due to this there has been no information published about how to join. After talking with the State this week they hope to have our paperwork processed and returned to us sometime next week. Once this is done we will post membership applications to the GeocacheAlaska! Inc web site and link them here in these forums.
I apologize for the length of time this process has taken. If it were within our control to effect this we would, but it rests in the slow turning wheels of bureaucracy.
In a perfect world we will have an answer next week and membership will be available.
Watch for some upcoming events as spring is right around the corner and with the receding snow means time for some CITO.

Thanks, FrostG1anT!
The devil is always in the details. It's good all the business license and nonprofit work is being done up front. I'm working with another organization that has been in existance for over twenty years that is seeking nonprofit status and there's a lot of retroactive documentation going back several years that has to be pulled together.

The above link no longer works. Where can I access the by-laws to view them?

I sent an e-mail to all premium members of record during the past two weeks that included an offer to set up a geocachealaska.org e-mail account. So far, only three people have taken advantage of this membership perk.
If you paid premium membership dues and didn't receive the e-mail or received the e-mail and want a geocachealaska.org e-mail account but haven't responded yet, let me know and I'll set you up.

An online version of the GeocacheAlaska! membership form is attached to this post. You may download it, complete it, and mail it to the address on the form. Premium Membership dues go toward defraying the cost of operating the website and e-mail service and member discounts for events and merchandise (geocoins, geopins, calendars, etc.). Premium members also are eligible to serve on the Board of Directors and to vote in the elections. Regular memberships are important because it helps the Board of Directors accurately state membership to Land Managers and for year-end non-profit record keeping. So, even if you don't feel like financially supporting GeocacheAlaska!, please to complete the form and send it in or complete one at one of the many upcoming events. GeocacheAlaska!, Inc., will not share your personal information with other entities. Thanks! Attachments:
