Many Chugach front range, Chena State Recreation area, Byers Lake, and other parking lots require an Alaska State Parks day fee or annual pass. I was reminded of that a few nights ago at the Upper Huffman trailhead when a park ranger swung by and started checking windshields for passes. I 'fessed up that I only had an '07, but not an '08 yet. He let me off the hook saying they were giving annual pass holders a couple weeks grace period, but vehicles not sporting a day or prior year's annual pass were getting ticketed. In Anchorage, you can buy an annual pass at the Potter Section House at MP 115 on the Seward Highway, the Public Lands Office at the corner of 4th and F, the DNR Public Information Center at 550 W 7th Ave, Suite 1260, or at REI. Even easier, one can by an annual pass online with a credit card here. I ordered one for each of the family cars on Tuesday and the passes showed up in our mailbox today (Thursday).

Oh thats right. I forgot all about it. It's defenently worth getting the annual for me. As many times as I park in the stat parking areas to chase down caches it's not worth just doing the day parking pass each time.
Thanks for reminding me.

Bump...the link in the first post of this thread still works for online renewal. Ordered our 2009 parking passes today!
The passes cost $40 for the first and $20 for the second family vehicle. The daily fee is $5 for most every State Park access point in Alaska except the Little Su Public Use Facility, the Pillars Boat Launch (between Soldotna and Kenai), Arctic Valley and the Eagle River Nature Center.

Thanks again for finding another way for me to spend more $$ LBK!
Just kidding, seriously, Thanks for bringing this post to the front as a reminder (yes I'm one of the forum users that rarely read more than the 30 most current posts).
It was on my mind New Years eve night but then it slipped my mind until now. Buying the permit early in the year like this means I won't have to sneak into so many parks this year before getting the sticker. Ordering now!

A free Disabled Veteran's Annual Camping Pass is also available from the AK Dept Of Natural Resources. The legislature granted Disabled Alaskan Veterans (DAV) the right to receive one Alaska State Park Camping Pass free of charge. The DAV Camping Pass, which is valid in all developed Alaska State Park campgrounds, is good for two years. To receive a free DAV camping pass, an eligible disabled veteran must present proof of a service connected disability and Alaska residency at either the Anchorage or Fairbanks DNR Public Information Centers. Additional info can be obtained at; dnr.alaska.gov/parks/asp/vetpass.htm
