The photos accompanying a Ridgeseeker and Suzaru cache hide are generally stunning and worthy of inclusion on geocaching.com's banner photo series. Many Alaskan cachers excel at posting great photos from their journeys (such as Oleruns, MTboy, Ladybug Kids...) but there's something compelling about the R&S team's photography - perhaps it's that I'll probably never get up to those places to log their hides... or perhaps it's just that Alaska's a true feast for the eyes. In any case, I'll start this thread with my all-time favorite Ridgeseeker photo post, then add a few others that've caught my eye... Geo at Godwin Glacier Overlook (GCV0Z6) - gets my vote for best Alaska cache photo of all time...

How odd - here's another photo of Geo - he must just bring Ridgeseeker along to get great photos proving Geo was at the cache! Atop a mountain at an MTboy cache - 'Barrel of Monkeys'

R&S have great pictures. That's what caching is all about; finding new areas and sharing them with others. Sometimes you turn a corner and go, "whoa!, look at that!" not like Burkys Quest cache, I don't think I would take a picture of that ;D

OK - so it's not a cache... it's a benchmark! This is UW7737 CAPE RESET - the 1942 Corps of Engineers Triangulation Station set in bedrock atop Gull Rock, due south of McHugh Creek. Following the 1964 earthquake this station was used as part of the resurvey of Turnagain Arm and southcentral Alaska. It's a 5.5 mile one-way hike from Hope's Porcupine Creek campground trailhead, into the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge on a well-marked trail. The far shore is 3.5 miles distant, while McHugh Peak is 6.1 miles away.

Here's photos from my recovery of benchmark UW6278 LITTLE, 24 miles due west of Talkeetna (and 52 miles south of Denali!)... This is the BLM cadastral survey marker at the section corner, (above) located one mile north of the benchmark I was hunting. Although it was a bit chilly (minus temperature and a 30+ mph wind) it was worth it! The wind had made any digging unnecessary... a good thing, since the disk has been stolen from the mark and all that remains is the drill hole... and a fantastic view! The hole was cut into top of the weathered rock at the very top of the hill. Apparently the disk has been missing for a long time (see below)... The photo below is taken looking south to the lower (northern) end of the Little Peters Hills. The BLM mark was on the hilltop shown at about 2600' of elevation.

Perusing the cache logs of several hides I haven't yet found along Turnagain Arm, I came across this fabulous photo: Turnagain Panoramic View from Windy Trail to the Old Road Cache - 8/30/08 - by WinterSmithMost caches I've done along Turnagain Arm have great views, but I know I've stumbled across a cache to add to my 'must-find' list when a well-traveled cacher like Tundra Tim notes in his cache found log "Nice cache with a great view. It doesn't get much better than this."Sooo... nice photo by WinterSmith at an apparently awesome cache by akglacierdog!
