I just purchased the Rhino 120 and FYI the cable is a serial cable not USB. So those with a Wang or Commodore 64 can probably use it okay. My Laptop has a serial cable so I hope I can get the software to run on Windows 98. What was Garmin thinking? I know LBK, I should have got a Magellan ;D

I know what Garmin was thinking now - $59.99 for the new cable... Turkeys $8.40 on Ebay with shipping, I hope it works

I know what Garmin was thinking now - $59.99 for the new cable... Turkeys Computer City or equivalent in Anchorage should have a serial to USB converter for no more than 1/3 the price. Make sure you check the number of pins the Garmin needs...there are several different serial standards. Alternatively, you can buy a serial card (don't know what they cost) for your laptop if you have an extra PCI slot. In the spirit of full disclosure...my two-year old Magellan requires a serial port which conveniently resides on my three year old HP desktop.

Ole: As long as you are funding a new GPSr, invest in some lithium batteries. They are a bit more than than the COSTCO "multipac/change out every other day batteries". But they will last in the cold, and with a radio to boot, you will need them. I went for a couple night caches last January and used 4 sets of regular batteries including changing headlamp batteries twice with the bulk brand batteries. The lithium sticks have been lasting a couple months lately.

I hope I don't have to find out. Screens are almost all new for me so there will be a learning curve but if you keep putting out caches, that will help - ;D

I have been using up to 5 different GPS's and started using my rino 120 about 3 months ago and really like it, though I sometimes miss my electric compass from my vista. I was all over IL caching when I was down there on business and used the Rino for navigating and caching and it worked great. Yes always needing a different cable when you switch systems is a pain, but I think worth it.
