I'd like to formally and publicly sing praise to our Newsletter Editors. Another great edition hit the stands today (available for download from our website, as always) marking 31 great newsletters published by pure volunteer efforts of our club members. I know how hard it is to fit uncompensated hobby activity in around our day jobs. And how seldom the recognition for the effort is given. Welcome aboard, Fire_fly! And thanks to Mike for staying the course on this publication while keeping a cadre of "reporters" engaged to provide the content every month. It's amazing that it is still FREE to the public! Good Job, folks!!!

Thanks, Scott!
Cathy/TheFire_fly out of Homer offered to publish for us and made a seamless transition.
I'm looking forward to amazing changes this year since she uses the same application used by Terry Marsh/countrymatters, who writes and quarterly publishes "The Seeker," the newsletter for the Geocaching Association of Great Britain. Terry is a professional travel writer and has offered to mentor us. He's been very complimentary of the content of our newsletter has said he wishes "he had as much to work with as we do."
I also can't thank enough the reporters from Fairbanks, Homer, Soldotna, and Anchorage, who provided content and photos for the newsletter. We wouldn't have a newsletter without them.

Thanks, Scott! :-) And thanks to Mike for his patience with my questions! I am enjoying the chance to work on the newsletter! I can't promise "Around The State" will start to look like "The Seeker", but I am aiming to build on what is already established and work our publication another step up. I'd love to be in tough with Terry and get some tips. I also can't thank enough the reporters from Fairbanks, Homer, Soldotna, and Anchorage, who provided content and photos for the newsletter. We wouldn't have a newsletter without them. Yes! I say this in the other publications I do, as well. Without folks to submit the content, I can't create a newsletter! So thank you to each and everyone who contributes. You provide the newsletter, I just make it pretty.

WOW!
What an enjoyable morning I've had. I woke to find our latest News letter in the mail and when I opened it up I just couldn't put it down.
The new layout really drew me in, and the articles where awesome.
I really liked the Bio's of our new BOD, the Sandbox snipits, The Christmas caches, and a little trip to Europe, all with a nice cup of coffee.
Thank you so much for a really fun news letter to read. Great job.

Great newsletter! Read parts of it this morning and will finish the rest later. I did not receive through email but did receive notification through the FB group page! Thanks to all who put this edition together and who contributed to it.

Our latest newsletter is pretty nice! As fuzzy said, it was pretty much a given I wasn't going to stop reading it until I'd read everything. The new layout is great, and makes it easier to read too.

It's newsletter time again. :-) This month's deadline is this Sunday (February 23rd). Events, caching stories, tips & tricks, photos, praise for cachers you've met on the way, milestones, or anything else you would like to submit. Send them to me at editor@geocachealaska.org. If you have any questions, or would like assistance with an idea or article, please don't hesitate to ask. Together we can to it.

An email mixup was noted while I was doing maintenance on our mail server this morning. Somewhere along the way, the two separate email addresses editor@geocachealaska.org and newsletter@geocachealaska.org were mixed up. This error first appeared on the back page of the newsletter 5 months ago. Meanwhile we have been asking people to use the other account via a permanent link on our website and other annoucements. Only one of these emails was being monitored for recieved messages during this time, and as such a number of messages sent to the other address did not get routed to our editor for inclusion in the newsletter. To clear the e-air... The address editor@geocachealaska.org is where folks need to send content, articles, suggestions, and other feedback about the newsletter. Anything going to this address is recieved by the current newsletter editor and the club secretary (who holds Board accountability for the newsletter). Do not use the newsletter@geocachealaska.org address for routine correspondence. This account is where your newsletter will be mailed from when it is sent out to the membership. This account is managed by the Webmaster as part of the Communications Committee. Only newsletter subscription add or remove requests should be sent to this address. Sorry for the confusion. (shy)

Good morning Alaska cachers! Yesterday was officially the newsletter deadline. Please, please get your articles and/or photos sent to editor@geocachealaska.org! Break up caching stories? Spring break caching stories? Travel caching stories? TB stories? Whatever you want, send them my way! And if you still need a day or two, let me know. We'll work it out together. Thank you!

FF... What is the "standard" for your newsletter deadline? As in how many days out from publish? We can plan for a standard newsletter reminder and put it on the master calendar.

Scott - Wes is going to be handling the May issue, while I'm out of state and away from the computer, so he'll set that deadline for sometime in April.
Starting in late May (for the June issue), the deadline will be the 22nd of each month, with the intended publish date of the 1st of the following month.
I'm off-loading a LOT of work as of the end of May (hooray), so my turnaround time on this should be shorter than that, but I also want to give myself plenty of time for the unforeseen snafus that always seem to crop up. :-D

Hey Wes, when it comes to me taking on the Sandbox Snippets, we should coordinate. Looks like some things got repeated, which is fine... I just want to make sure my article jives with what you're putting out as Prez Thanks!

Good point, Joel! Or - great minds think alike. Or - we're crazy!!! More to the point, yes we will coordinate for future editions. I'm publishing this month as our esteemed editor has the temerity to indulge herself in some fun travel out of state, so will make sure not to crossover. I got more reviewer reminders recently which will spur the thrust of my article... Get Caches Ready for Summer Visitors!
Thanks!

I'm publishing this month as our esteemed editor has the temerity to indulge herself in some fun travel out of state... Ahem! It isn't *all* fun, unless you call 7 flights in 5 weeks with 2 kids aged 5 and under, plus selling a house and buying a car 'fun'. One more day in Montana and then we're off to the next state. Wheee! Many thanks to Wes for taking on the newsletter this month. (BTW Wes - I never asked if you wanted the InDesign template. My apologies - as I do not have access to it again until I get home! Do let me know if there is anything I can do to assist you remotely.)

Hmmm, did TFf intentionally keep the awesome new format from NW while she was away at play? Everyone will get a crinkly old paper on May Day and wonder where the musik went. Wes certainly has some shoes to fill. I know I'll do my best to give you some tid-bits to toss in there. I wonder what Top Ten stat I should go with this month... there are so many to choose from!
We will have a summary of the pathtag contest results to publish and I'm trying to get in a position to get a grip on the 2014 geocoin project. We now have 3 potential leads on which way to go with that coin. I think we'll be putting the 3 concepts up to FR Comm & BoD vote pretty quick so we can start working toward blueprinting.
I think I might have another item or two that I can try to feed to you. I do want to spread it out a bit, so expect at least the pathtag and coin stuff if I don't get around to submitting a caching report or other article. They can be rolled over to June if I miss the deadline.

Argh! I forgot our beloved editor uses InDesign - which I don't own on home platforms. Oh well - no problem. We'll suffer through an older format. And there's no way I'm going to be able to walk in Firefly's shoes - it would hurt me too much to try!
I'm loving the top ten stats. I wonder if they can track anything to do with the benchmark stats? Hmmm...
All articles are welcome, and let me know if you need to go past the deadline a bit. We're already doing that to include the CITO weekend efforts.

I should be able to submit a wee article on caching in Montana, and another a bit longer on caching in Minnesota.
I went to a CITO event yesterday where the CO and others knew NorthWes and li1grey. That was fun. :-)

Our June newsletter has hit the street (well, your emailbox, that is) and it's another home run. It is so much fun to read about the variety of endeavours our local cachers undertake around the state and across the country in their pursuit of smileys. Thanks again to TheFirefly for putting out a quality project!
