Check it out! Homer is the only registered celebration in AK so far! www.wilderness50th.org/events.php?useraction=detail&e_id=272I'm planning on having a related event at the Islands and Ocean visitor center around that time. Likely another learning lab, geocaching 101 presentation, some day caches, and some kind of tie-in with the film if we can. The Film and event at I&O are on April 3, which is a Thursday. I would hope to have our geocaching-specific lab and tie-in on the following Saturday. I'd love some support to run some tables at the learning lab, so please put this on your radar and get back to me. Even though we can't cache in Federal Wilderness areas, we can still show our support for the agencies with Wilderness areas which allow us to cache in some way. Alaska Maritime NWR is one of those places! So, please discuss below, and let's plan! We have 6 tables to think of ideas for. Last time we had: -Intro to Geocaching (What is geocaching?) -GPS use/help -An orienteering course and instruction -How does GPS work, with a trilateration activity -A table to check in for the day caches and completion of the password book -A table talking about a National Park Service photo project with GPS points and photo comparisons through history Thoughts for a new set of tables?

Great idea Joel.
Tessa in Anchorage has also approached us about participation in this celebration, so we'll likely be at two locations. You may want to coordinate content with her so we create only one set of materials.

If the Region office is doing something up there in Anchorage for Wilderness Celebration and GPS, I doubt we'll get much attention down here... Any idea what she's got on tap?
I'm hoping to get something like our last learning lab again, but perhaps with a bit more focus on partnership opportunities with agencies?

As I understand it, a revamp of the Blue Goose Chase with Letterbox Hybrid hides. However, I recommend communicating directly with her since you are both on the "inside" and I'm just an external enabler of her and her colleagues' ideas.

I might be able to help out in Anchorage as a work-related event, but I'm still hoping to have something here in Homer on the 5th of April. Still looking for possible help...

Going to continue to be traveling a lot. Will help when I can Is there a weekend around then that might work better? We can tie into Wilderness at 50, but have it focus on another big Eduvent/Learning Lab. It doesn't necessarily have to be only about the Wilderness Act, but I'd say that a table about it would be a good idea for 1 of the 6. (And, I'm wearing my USFWS hat when asking for possible help...just FYI)
