Hey folks. I wanted to bring the Kachemak Heritage Land Trust to the attention of the Advocacy Committee. I've made some contacts about geocaching, and they are open to it on their properties.
However, I think that this might be a good opportunity to get the greater GeAK community or committee in the know.
I'm hoping to get some more caches on their lands, but I'd love to know if the committee has anything prepped that I could send to them. An info packet of some kind? Please get in touch with me so we can get each other up to speed!

Just FYI... the Advocacy Committee is about to be an empty chair as the current MAL in the position is leaving the BoD with the end of his current term in 6 weeks. We will need to fill the Advocacy and Education committee chair positions from the new BoD and then populate the committees with some motivated volunteers to help get the work done. So, you should probably be thinking about what committee you'd be interesting in holding the Chair and which committee(s) you'd be interested in being a member of.

KHLT has been very open and welcoming regarding geocaching when I've had contact with them. I didn't/don't have anything official prepped.

They were really excited to hear more last fall, but then each time I checked back in it fell on deaf ears. Not necessarily a bad thing...: I do know that we can cache on their owned properties. I did get the green light. I'm starting to think about how to get overlays or other maps that might help us know where their easements and property lines are. I'm psyched to get more caches into the Stariski Creek area, and more around Homer properties. There is a trail in the works up on Skyline, and I need to check in about completion and location details. And, by the way Firefly, you and I need to meet up and chat about CACS and that cache idea we were talking about at the Space event.

IIRC, they have lots of seemingly random properties all over the place! I had a rough map at one point, when I had a couple cache ideas. I think it is filed some place very safe now...
A trail on Skyline? Do keep me posted! I hadn't heard about that one. I've still gotta replace that leaky cache container on the old CACS cache...maybe we should take a stroll up there soon?

Do you guys have snow on the ground in Homer or is it still dirt?
As for the land ownership, go to the KPB website and pull up the land maps. All the lot lines and land ownership is public accessible info through the borough website.

All the lot lines and land ownership is public accessible info through the borough website. Still dirt. Nights are getting pretty crisp, but no snow or ice yet. I'm getting after some of the maps for my own record, and I think we've got a grasp on where to find some of them. The only issue is that KHLT scoops up land and I don't know how often plat maps get updated for the Borough.

I have the Hunt AK card for my GPS. It has land ownership for the entire KPB, plus most of the rest of AK. As you pan the map around, you see all published borough property lines and the registered owner of each property is listed on it.
I have a brand new cacher from Soldotna that I'm going to take out caching later this week. We're thinking about a possible road trip down to Homer (so I can get into some territory where I haven't found every cache and we can both enjoy the finds). Wx looks like it will remain clear and cold all week, with possible snow by next weekend. There is snow on the ground around Soldotna. Not much, but it still makes urban micro hunts pretty difficult.

Might have to ask you about that card! But, I need to get my GPS working again. My Legend Cx had been revived for the time being. Blech.

Still dirt. Nights are getting pretty crisp, but no snow or ice yet. There is ice for those of us that live off gravel roads in boggy/muskeggy areas! We had all that rain and then it got cold. Nothing below zero yet, but we've been hovering just above single digits for a few nights now. My whole neighborhood is like a giant ice cube. But no snow yet, sadly.
