Is there any way to adopt a cache if it's owner hasn't logged on the website for months and can't be reached? First Cache needs maintenance and I feel like I should adopt it.

When I took over Gambling Man, I just sent Erik an email and he made it happen. Thanks for wanting to take it on - Ole

Alternatively, you could just provide the maintenance, log what you did and see what happens.
The Captain, Commanda and I went out caching for that specific purpose once. I had read a log that said a cache had been destroyed by some muggles. Thinking it might have been some DR Bleh trick, we went out with a new everything and removed the old everything - except for the logbook, I think we just removed the messages that were left by some very deranged anti-cachers. Wasn't DR Bleh's style at all....
Anyway, there might be a time when paths cross, but the cacher who owned the cache was happy that we had replaced it. He or She couldn't get to it for a couple of months.

Central Park is another cache that needed a great cleaning. I logged maint. notes a few times on that cache. It stunk (actually). It smelled of mildew and rot and most of what was in it was ruined. The owner did nothing about it, has not logged on since May 18, 2006. The last "find" indicates it has been cleaned up. Possibly someone just got tired of smelling it and cleaned it.

Cache on the Hill is another cache that needs some work. The owner hasn't logged on since April of last year. The cache is in terrible shape.

Hi...I'm new here...this is my first post. I live near a defunct cache....deafcache....I'd be happy to maintain that one if is still there? It has a line through it on geocaching.org. Meanwhile I'm going to try to place my first cache tomorrow.

Thanks for the new cache... Wait, post it on Tuesday, Malcore has to work that day ;D
Sorry, that was an inside joke that you will understand some day. Malcore will be the First to Find almost 99% of the time and the "FTF" is kind of a game inside the game. Malcore is the master who has left me in the dust on the FTFs. I still try to get him now and then to keep him on his toes.
Deafhunt owns the cache you are talking about. Send him an email asking to adopt it or better yet, if you can fix it up for him.
I can't wait for your cache!!!

Is there any reason I shouldn't put fused glass geocach logos in the cache?

Try this first: www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspxIf you still have questions, contact Erik88l-r his email can be found at the bottom of almost all the cache pages. He is our reviewer and a great guy. This will allow you to ask someone and not give your cache idea away. Caches are not to be commercial in anyway. I don’t think the Alaska cachers would get too worked up but there have been issues brought up by out-of-state cachers on a couple of our caches. I don't think you'll have any problem -

Is there any reason I shouldn't put fused glass geocach logos in the cache? They sound like a cool signature item to me. They's be even cooler if you can personalize them in somewhat with your caching name, your avatar, or some other means. Handmade signature items, while rare in Alaska, are highly sought after Outside, especially in Washington and California. Re: first deaf cache - Deafhunt temporarily deactivated it so he can move it from its current location across the street from his house. He logged onto the gc.com site on January 4, and I've seen recent posts by him in the gc.com forums, so he's still interested in caching. Some cachers just need time to fix up their caches when something needs to be done. Welcome to the game!

Thanks. I did email him about his cache. That makes perfect sense.
The little fused glass things I made are small. They have the geocache logo and then Alaska beneath it. No mention of me personally. Its not commercial as I'm not advertising any product or company. I will definitely check out the link though to make sure I'm not starting out wrong. I am heading down to Phoenix and Prescott in a couple of weeks and thought I'd put them in down there as well.
Thanks for the help everyone. Hope to meet you sometime on the hunt. This is a nice forum. I'm still trying to figure out the history of this "dr Bleh". Is there more than one? Did he start here?

I know I am new to the geocaching thing and don't know all the "rules" and etiquette just yet (although I am learning), but I'd like to throw my hat into the ring and volunteer my services to adopt a cache in the Fairbanks area if one needs a new guardian. I know that sometimes we start something with the best of intentions but life has a way of rearranging our schedules and we just never seem to have the time for whatever it was anymore. So if anyone knows of a cache that seems to be orphaned and can tell me the proper procedure to go about giving it a new lease on life, I am willing to be the proud parent!
