I seemed to remember reading somewhere in these forums or in the newsletter about a group that would be caching here in Alaska from out of state... One of the caches on their radar was my cache that is part of the Cache Across America series. I want to check my cache just before they come and make sure it's ready for their visit, but I'm not finding the information on when it's happening... Does anyone else know what I'm talking about??

I think you are referring to the cachers coming up on a cruise ship. They will be in Southcentral Alaska during the first week of July. Watch the newsletter, event listings, and these forums for updates as more specifics are known.

I want to check my cache just before they come and make sure it's ready for their visit, but I'm not finding the information on when it's happening... Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?? I know exactly what you're talking about! The group disembarks from their ship in Seward the morning of Friday July 5th. They're traveling to Anchorage via bus, with a short stop in the Portage area. They'll unload at their hotels in the Spenard district in late afternoon, with some being dropped directly at the airport for flights home. Approximately 40 will be attending a meet'n'greet at Sourdough BBQ on Friday evening, tentatively scheduled to begin at 6:30pm. The event page is to publish within the next ten days for that evening meet-up. As they'll have 3 vans rented, some cruiser-cachers have asked to do some classic Anchorage late summer night caching, visiting a couple of caches around the city they've targeted. On Saturday July 6 there will be groups heading out to Reflection Lake to do the Cache Across America cache you own, as well as visit a couple of other valley locations. Many are also scheduled to cache in Kincaid Park on Saturday morning July 6th, and the group will grow smaller throughout the day as they have to fly home. Some are staying for an extended period to further their visit to our state. Does that help you have a snapshot of when they'll descend on your cache site?

Does that help you have a snapshot of when they'll descend on your cache site? Perfect! I'll go out on the 4th or 5th to check on it. Sounds like a fun time!

Make sure cooks nook is on the list....one of the oldest in the state and they will be at Kincaid!!
If LBK can get it back up and running before they get here his at the glen alps overlook is good too
For the adventuresome ones put them onto coloreido's survivor...

If LBK can get it back up and running before they get here his at the glen alps overlook is good too When in Kincaid, Serenity View is another nice one and easier to get to than Cook's Nook. A reasonably mobile crowd could find both during a short jaunt. Yes, I need to do something to resucitate Alpen, er, Alpine View in some form or fashion, even if temporarily. The viewing platform was removed last Fall and there is a Big Dig occuring up there now. Survivor was a great cache and I got it done in one night after a false start with an old dog, but I had Northwest Trails and a lot of local knowledge that helped me through the multi. Even then, I had to PAF because part of one stage was covered with snow and it's got even more snow on it now.

Checked on the CCA cache last night. All is well. It's a little light on SWAG and trackables though. I might have to see what I can do to change that before Saturday morning... We are headed to Portage that day, so I'm hoping to make a quick stop on our way by.

The Geo-Cruiser group was thrilled to find a well-maintained ammo can at Cache Across America - Alaska! Thanks to the AKStafford crew for keeping such a close eye on their CCA cache. The Reflections Lake trail now offers cachers at least a half-dozen caches right along a well-maintained short loop trail with stunning views and great wildlife viewing opportunities. I've extended our thanks to Palmer Hay Flats State Game Refuge Manager Joe Meehan for allowing us to make this a quality geocaching destination. On his part, Joe is delighted to have yet another user group visiting the refuge.
