Pea soup with a sprinkling of cheese this morning. (Otherwise known as wet, wet, wet, low clouds, and a bit of snow.) Bring floats for your tents!

Meh...bivvy sack weather. No new snow at my home overnight and the snow that stuck to the lawn yesterday morning melted off. I do hope it doesn't snow...cleaning out the BBQ pits at Hidden Lake will be more of a challenge.

We've been holding a steady drizzle in Soldotna since yesterday, though it did cool off a bit. Up to about 39°F now. Our power went out sometime in the middle of the night, so I woke up cold this morning. They got it back up about 7am. I've been torn on whether to bring the dogs, but the thought of two wet dogs in a tent buried in heavy, wet snow has me leaning toward leaving them home, at least on the first night. If things are looking better by Saturday afternoon while we are in Soldotna, I might pick them up for Hidden Lake. But we'll just have to see how things are going. Hidden Lake should be much better. Sunday is calling for clear and sunny. The snow scare is for Friday night with light rain on Saturday. No way there is enough snow and cold to still be on the ground by the time we get there Saturday night. Right now they have some rain up there. See DOT Camera at Jean Lake.

Only 0.04 inches of rain at Russian River Ferry during past 24 hours. It's drier there than here at the house.
I may bring a dog or two, but it/they will slum in the truck in an airline kennel. No point in having mud trucked into the tent.

Things cleared up here a few hours ago and we've seen sun! Lots of standing water at my place still, but sounds like town is a little drier. (The playground work party was postponed a couple weeks ago because of a dusting of snow. Now we've had a few days of rain and an expected inch of snow for their rescheduled day tomorrow!) Now, everybody sing....The sun will come out, tomorrow.... Oh, and speaking of town, they aren't giving us trash bags. (badday) I'm not impressed with the new gal I've been working with there (and not just because of this). After telling me this morning (only after I reminded her when I'd be by to pick them up) that she no longer had any, she's been randomly emailing me throughout the day to suggest other businesses I might ask, and ended every email with "I'm so sorry." I don't have time to chase around today trying to solicit trash bags from other businesses, so unless someone else has enough extra, I'll just purchase some from SUM tomorrow morning.

I have over 100 trash bags. We're good. I just finished packing up and will be leaving Soldotna in a few minutes to head down to our dinner party. We'll see you at Starvin Marvin's in a couple hours to kick this thing off!!!
It stopped raining in Soldotna about 11am and we've had a lot of sun in between large batches of clouds ever since. They're still calling for rain/snow tonight, but clearing in the morning. Hopefully this stuff will continue to dissipate as we move north over the weekend.

Per LBK
Dry pavement and mostly sunny in cooper Landing and Hidden Lake areas. Allow time for road construction pilot car in Cooper Landing before Kenai River bridge.
Girdwood...that's another story...new snow and wet pavement.

Just wrapped up Soldotna and we'll be heading north to Hidden Lake shortly. Everything is going well so far. Tonight around the campfire should be "epic". I hear that LBK is going to have a very fresh and frightening story to tell...

What an excellent weekend! This turned out to be a brilliant idea, even if it was still a little rough around some of the edges. I hope we can perpetuate this event series.

I agree this was a most excellent weekend event. It's definitely worth repeating and the permutations are endless with options to include Seward and/or Moose Pass and extend up to Fairbanks and/or over to Valdez on separate weekends or as one big HOBO trek.

This event series was a great success! Thanks to everyone who came (especially those that started their trips in Homer!), and a big thank you shout out goes to The_Firefly and Joat for all they did to help make this all happen. Pretty neat that a conversation the three of us started turned into this whole project!
Perhaps again, next year? This fall when the campgrounds aren't full again? No matter what, if you weren't there, you missed out on a lot of fun!

Like! Twice a year to begin and end the season. Once again, you have sparked an idea. What can we plan to close out the year? Obviously, we have to migrate around to different sites each time, though we could still end with the Girdwood highway, since we have to document at least 3 CITO events there every year. But we could do a similar run at the end of August or beginning of September with different spots in Homer, Sonai, Cooper Landing, and then Girdwood. Or, we can come up with something entirely different such as Mike has eluded to. It need not be tied to Girdwood if that doesn't fit into the desired route, as we can always run that site separately.

Great job you guys.
Thanks for posting that e-mail from KNWR JOAT, that really made my day. I'll say a much better response Then we got from the folks we cleaned up for at the Welcome to Kenai sign a month or so ago(I'll leave it at that) but after reading your e-mail all the effort we all put in was completely worth it, and the Kudos only make it better.
I'm ready to go for some more CITO.

An email from the KNWR Park Ranger for Hidden Lake... That's great news. I know that they will be receptive to more CITO or other service-based projects from we cachers. I'll also venture a guess that Earthcaches won't be too far behind in KNWR...

Oh man, that's rich. At least it lets me know that *someone* received the press release I sent (hence the prizes and snacks). LOL! And I totally concur - this was an awesome event!! I'm excited for the next one. :-) Dee keeps asking "Doggies? Doggies?" And when I ask which doggies, she says "Black one! Maggie! Ball!" Sabre wants to know when she can pick up trash with "Joel and those other guys" again.
