Hello, everyone! I wanted to be sure to extend an invitation to our GeocacheAlaska community to come down to Homer for our GPS and Navigation Learning Lab. (http://coord.info/GC44XTE) It will be held at the Islands and Ocean visitor center, and will have some fun activities and information for cachers old and new.
We'd love to have some help from local cachers (local being a relative term around these parts...) with showing folks things like how to use their GPS, finding our temporary event caches, and more.
If you can help, please head to the cache listing and shoot an email to IslandsAndOcean via their profile.
The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies will also have a family event on Sunday at their Carl Wynn Nature Center, so there's lots to do here while you visit. Hope to see you down at the end of the road!
Thanks, everyone!

Hey, thanks to everyone who even thought about coming to Homer! It was a GREAT event, and we had a lot of fun. Now that it's all done, I can relax! I created and coordinated 8 tables of activities and information, including all the handouts, printouts, graphic design and lamination! It was totally worth it. Now, if we could just get some more folks in Homer to start geocaching (or find dates where people can get down here to join in the fun!), we'll finally have more than 4 cachers show for events here! Let's do it again!

I've heard from a couple of cachers that attended that the event was first rate! Glad it was successful.
For those who haven't cached in Homer, I highly recommend making plans for this summer. Most of the cache locations are first rate and the scenery is definitely worth the trip.
Hmmm...I feel a "Destinations" newsletter article coming on.

I'm working on getting everything converted to a lesson-plan format that could be read and understood by anyone who can teach. I can find a way to get the resources (pdfs, images, handouts, etc) all compiled and ready to go as a kit. That way any or all parts of the event's tables can be used for different activities at any event anywhere.
I'm going to get the PowerPoint that I created off to the "shop" so that it can be downloaded from the GeocacheAlaska! site. Contact me through my profile to coordinate.
