I did host a few Eduvents here in Homer back in the day. I'd love to do it again. I ran into two problems - 1. Location. 2. Timing (ie - I can't host 3rd Thursday events.)
I&O was a great location, but I wasn't up to spending the $ to reserve the location. NS may have some pull on that location now. I used CACS once, but they put two of us on the calendar for the night, so it was rather awkward (I walking in on a private meeting when I went to set up - oops!) They are still an option for us.

Check the calendar closely as the events are not always the 3rd Thursday. We also have the ability to run a WebEx EduVent on days other than Thursdays and coupled to BoD meetings. The BP Energy Center now allows us access on any week night. Our summer is wide open territory, so just because we don't formally have a placeholder for June, July, & August, we can still run WebEx EduVents during the summer.

I haven't noticed any recently that have been on other nights, but I'll make sure to pay attention as we go along. There were a few summer EduVents a couple years ago, weren't there? I seem to remember they were dropped because everyone was so busy. It might be worth it to try again, see how the landscape has changed.

And then I just looked ahead to the fall dates and see that more than one isn't on the third Thursday.
(Note to self - LOOK at the calendar before commenting.)

I will be stepping down as the Education Committee Chair, though I will still remain on the committee and will act as Chair until a replacement is found. (I'm moving over to take on the Fundraising Committee for awhile)
We have 2 EduVents dates to fill on October 24 and November 21. Request some suggestions as to the topics. If we don't get any suggestions, I will come up with something to deliver on October 24 (as fate would have it, I will already be in Anchorage that evening). I can pull to together another session on puzzles or something like that, or it can be something electronic related on the forums/website or cache page creation or?

Perhaps make October a members' "open microphone" session with the Board of Directors so the Board can describe what goes on behind the scenes and members can tell the Board what they'd like to see. It'd be timely given that the 2014 election will open 1 November.
It's been nearly three years since the local Reviewer has stood in front of a crowd. Maybe we can get that guy to stop running around with his dogs long enough to talk to folks during an evening.

Good ideas. Funny thing is, as I was typing the previous post, I had a flash thought of an "open mic" night. Just about fell out of my chair when you came up with the same thing.

It's too bad the event is scheduled for after nominations close. The 19th's meeting would have been just about perfect timing in the middle of the nominations period. However, the October meeting could be a candidate forum where the candidates discuss their aspirations for the next year and here what the members would like to see. Could be a good time to recruit committee members as well.
Going off the grid for a Fall color driveabout shortly. Will be looking for photo ops worthy of the Photo Contest that closes at the end of the month.

October 24th EduVent meeting is going to be an "Open Mic" night for the Board of Directors and Canidates for the upcoming elections to speak to the membership. There will be a formal 'what is GeocacheAlaska!' presentation up front. The membership is welcome to ask questions and provide their comments.
We will waive the Sourdough-only dial in requirements for this event. Any member from anywhere in the state is welcome to dial in to this event.
