Another potential source of GPS maps for Garmin. I've been told that you can select satellite imagery from this site, convert it to KML files in Google Earth, and then import it with Garmin's Base Camp for direct loading into the newer Garmin GPSr. Have yet to try it out, but it sounds promising. www.alaskamapped.org/

SSO JOAT, Even tho that sounds promising, for those of us that don't know or not done any convertions and kml files will be needing help. Maybe after you get the promising to "it works" you can make a step by step how to do it or even a link to take us to your step by step? Just a thought/ sugestion.. ok a hope... since you don't live in anch and we can run over to your house to help me do these kind of things...lol
I know I need to find someone in town that can help will all these things... lol

Hey, you're welcome to run over to my house any time. It's only 3 hours away... over the river and through the woods.
Of course, I have plans to play with these different mapping things. And I also need to download Garmin's Base Camp to my "other laptop" to play with that since I use MapSource as my primary. If I find out we have some really cool stuff here, we'll make a newsletter article about it. One of my goals for 2013 is to get more educational articles put in there on a regular basis. There's also the possibility of opening up a whole new sector on our website dedicated to educational pieces like this.
With all that work to do, it sure would be nice to have someone with ideas and suggestions on the Education Committee. Are you game?

I am willing to help out were I can, that is why I ran for a board position. We dont want you or others frustrated because I dont get things done or done properly or me frustrated and beating my head against my key board cause I dont know how, what I am to do or doing.

Ah, but here's the deal... in a team such as ours, there is no need for anyone to be frustrated with themselves or over anyone else. We are all volunteers. We contribute the skill sets that we are willing to bring to the table. If you can't do something, let it be known and it will never be asked of you. For instance, if you don't know how to build a PowerPoint presentation, we are not going to expect you to do so. I've had a couple different folks who didn't know the first thing about PowerPoint come in and deliver an EduVent topic, because as a team, we found the talent to build the presentations separate from the presenter. The presenter had an idea or was good at delivering. By combining the skills of several people, we can really get stuff done around here.
Welcome aboard!

What a cooool-looking site! GPS Depot was a real gifting place for maps as well. I'm going to play a bit on the 'Alaska Mapped' location this weekend. Thanks for posting this one, Scott!
