The Challenger Learning Center of Alaska, located in Kenai next to the High School adjacent to GC1GM38 is having a "Geocache Rally" event on Saturday, September 10th. There is not an official geocaching.com event associated with this (yet). It is a pay-to-attend GPS and Geocaching workshop for adults and kids that starts at 10am with a group breakfast and runs all day with GPS and Geocaching workshops. It will end with a public finale BBQ with live music and a beer garden starting at 4pm with an awards ceremony at 5:30pm. Info and a registration form can be found HERE. Note that the geocaching workshops and competition is setup for teams of 4 people and the registration fee is $350 per team. The finale event BBQ is open to the public. At this point, since I was just made aware of this event earlier today, I'm gathering info and talking to the Challenger center managment about this event. We'll look at whether an assoicated official geocaching.com event listing is possible (could be something on the order of a flash mob in the parking lot at the start of the public access portion of the event finale). If I don't get "volunteered" into assisting with the workshops, I would certainly be interested in forming a 4-cacher team to participate. Another note of interest... my "Failure is Not an Option" cache (linked above) has been stolen from its woodland location behind the Center for the second time. The Challenger Center is working with me to move the cache over to the building itself, so it will be unavailable until the completion of a new cache container and hide over at the building where it will hopefully be safer from those pesky muggle kids.

Thanks JOAT for listing our fundraiser here! Most of the information was/is correct... but did want to point out that it is NOT workshops, it is a friendly competition to help raise funds for our educational programs- where we offer GPS workshops for students and teachers (among other things!) This is shaping up to be quite a fun day! A pig roast was generously donated by the folks at Diamond M Ranch, as well as lodging for any out-of-towners! Some of the prizes we've gathered already, include: Railway tickets to Denali, a night stay at the Orca lodge located on the Kenai River, with a 1/2 day guided fishing trip included, REI gear, and more! If the $350 entry fee is a bit steep- get friends, family and small businesses to sponsor you! I have pledge sheets available for such and it's a great way to share your excitement about geocaching. This is a fundraiser for an educational non-profit and all donations are tax deductible. Feel free to contact me at 283-2000 if you have any questions, comments, or what to sponsor a cache site! Thanks!
