I have a Garmin eTrex Legend HCx. I've downloaded the NW Trails file, and I see the trails in the Garmin Map Source program. But I'm not sure how to get that on the GPS. When I click to transfer, it says I need to select a map, waypoint or trail. So really I guess it's not knowing how to use the Map Source...

From the MapSource software, select the "map" tool from the toolbar list and then select all of the map sections you want to transfer to your GPSr. Do you have other topo, street, or marine packages installed? You must select the maps from those that you want even if they are already installed on your GPSr. The new map upload will completely overwrite the old one. You should see the map list in the left column (under the "map" tab) populate as you select map sections. After you have all your maps, do a normal upload operation ensure the map checkbox is selected. Post if you need more detail. We'll get you through this!

Now that I'm back at my home machine, I pulled up MapSource and grabbed the attached screenshot of the populated map tab. There are 9 "states" in the NW Trails map set. In the upper left corner, pick the Northwest Trails map set from the drop down box. Now use the map tool, which you see as the active button at the center of the top row on my screen. It's the yellow polygon shape. With that tool handle active, as you mouse over the map screen (zoom out so you can see the whole west coast) each available map will highlight as you go over it. To select all the trail overlays for a state, just click on it and the state will highlight to that pretty pinkish color and the map name appears in the map tab on the left. If you have other maps, such as the Topo map set, you must then switch to those other map sets in the top left drop down box and go through the process of picking the map sections you want in your GPSr. Again, even if you already have the other maps installed in your GPSr, you MUST select them here before uploading. When you upload maps, the entire mapfile in the GPSr is first deleted and then overwritten with the new map set. Hopefully that will be enough to get you rolling with NW Trails! Just ask if you need more assistance. Attachments:

Note that the area for the tiles you select for Northwest Trails does not have to be the exact same area you select for Topo or City Navigator.
I have an Oregon which allows multiple map files, so I download Northwest Trails by itself in its entirety, rename the file to NWTrails so it doesn't get overwritten, and then forget about until the next time I want to update it.
