Hi All: Let's use this thread to maintain a list of older/classic caches that have been abandoned by their original owner, but that the local caching community has taken under its wing to maintain. This list will help Greatland Reviewer determine when he needs to take action on a cache that receives a "Needs Maintenance" log. Caches that are eligible for community maintenance are: * Cache remains pretty much in place and the community replaces the log, swag or container when the need arises (the community is behaving as an attentive owner) * The maintaining community is a generally known informal group who have made it a point to keep the cache going Caches that are not eligible for community maintenance are: * Cache is patched up on random basis by visitors who arrive and take care of some discovered need * Cache has gone missing and has been replaced by a visitor * Cache that has been archived by its owner * Community maintained caches that have been abandoned by the maintaining community I'll start the list: EARTHQUAKE !!!, GC6715Don't ask me why there is a space between the 'K' and the 'E.' I retyped it a couple of times.

One I've got on my watchlist (and have reset the container on at least once) is the venerable "Cook's Nook" GCA4D in Kincaid Park. It's near several of my own caches, so keeping up on maintenance hasn't been a problem. Cook's Nook was placed on 5/24/2001 - one of Alaska's oldest active caches. Cache owner Bwolv visits the groundspeak website from time to time but hasn't been very active lately. This bright blue ammocan hide has one of the best views in all of Anchorage! Here's a New Yorker photo:

Maybe there should be some discussion about Room with a View. Is it worth saving? Should it go by the wayside?
I'm editing this one. I can't think of any redeeming feature for this cache location and the CO hasn't been in groundspeak since 2008.

Looks like GC183F would need a container replacement to be viable. Hard to do right now... so despite its age it may just be dropped. Rats - I hadn't got that far up the hill on that side yet. Oh well...
